The Pashan area in Pune is notorious for anti-social elements and dishonest shopkeepers.
However, it is also blessed with amazing nature, with a beautiful hill and a lake beside it, adding charm to the place.
Pashan is considered a mini hill station or mountain town in Pune.
Hence, 25 years ago, I purchased a house here. A flat in a residential apartment.
But the saga continues. Last week, I stopped by the newly opened Balaji Sugarcane Juice and Bhel Center. It is not on Maps, nor is my edit approved yet.
I ordered a jumbo or large glass of sugarcane juice. The cost was boldly displayed as Rs. 20 in the storefront.
The owner knew he did not have ice cubes in stock, which is essential to beat the heat. But he lied to me and went ahead to prepare fresh juice.
They have a super-compact cane crusher operated by an electric motor. The juice turned out to be lukewarm, putting a wet blanket on my plan to beat the heat that afternoon
And no pun intended here - it wasn’t funny
I complained, but the arrogant owner explained that ice was injurious to health. Given the anti-social nature of these shop owners, I decided not to escalate it, since he agreed to accept only Rs. 10. Yet, the juice experience was a showdown

There was one very old and popular Sugarcane Juice restaurant at Model Colony. I think you might remember it

Typical Puneri pattern - famous but closed down
No offense @framesbysumedh
We also had a famous Meridian ice cream in Pashan with good quality, and great service, but one day it closed down because the owner had become old and his son did not want to continue the tradition of their homemade, hand-made ice creams.

Thanks for sharing this honest experience! It’s unfortunate when something meant to be a refreshing break ends up being a letdown, especially during the heatwave. Kudos to you for staying calm and still finding a way to contribute meaningfully to the #BeatTheHeat challenge. Your reflections on Pashan really capture its duality — natural beauty and urban struggles. Hope your next chilled treat turns out far better!

Fully agree, dear @Gvipin
Many times, I have seen the operator put lemon and mint while crushing the sugarcane in the machine
Finding such juice centers is a lucky.
