I like teppanyaki, but frankly speaking, it’s not my ultimate go-to cuisine type while hunting food. So, how did I find this restaurant? I was searching omakase (a term commonly used when dining at Japanese restaurants where the customer leaves it up to the chef to select and serve seasonal specialties) in an online foodie group and found that 鐵 F.f Teppanyaki was mentioned, again and again, really, I saw at least 10 posts writing about this place and it made me wonder, why is this restaurant favored by so many foodies. The best way to find out? Try!
鐵 F.f Teppanyaki has three branch restaurants. The one I went to is near Ximen district, which takes around 10 minutes to walk from Metro Ximen station. According to the sous chef, all 3 branches are using the same seasonal ingredients, yet the dishes and cooking styles vary depending on the chef of each branch restaurant.
As for the price, the basic set (10 dishes with tea/coffee) is NT$990+10% per person. Diners could also pay extra to order more delicacies (such as lobsters, abalones, and scallops) and other drinks (sake, wine, soft drinks, etc.). The quality food and excellent service make it a great dining experience. Et voila! Here come the food photos!
The chef is showing the food ingredients of the meal of the day.
Appetizer: Pickled salmon with onions on a thin crispy cracker.
Soup and bread: I like the fried onions put on the top, which add smell and texture to the soup.
Lobster tail (extra order - upgrade from the shrimp): The lobster meat isn’t seasoned much, which makes it a great match with salmon roes and berry sauce. I especially like the POP feeling the roes bring.
Lobster head (extra order - upgrade from the shrimp): Gratin with chopped vegetables and cream sauce. As a big fan of gratin, I wish the cheese could be more stringy.
Flounder fish: The meat tastes tender and yummy, but nothing compares to the bottomed grilled tomato with cheese. For me, it’s not the base stone of the dish, but the rock star!
Oyster: One of my favorite dishes of all. The thin egg paper tastes a bit like egg roll skin and is a perfect match with the sauce and oyster. It elevates the whole dish!
Shredded radish salad: This beautiful-looking dish is my other favorite. It may look simple but it’s refreshing and great for a tasting break.
Steak: One of the most impressive plates of all. The meat is very tender and juicy. The water bamboo and garlic on the side are perfectly-grilled as well. The salt on the side is a bit spicy.
Beef patty sandwich: Till this point, I was already full, but how could I say no to a juicy meaty patty sandwich.
Fried rice: I gotta admit that I was a bit surprised there’s still a dish coming after the sandwich, and it’s rice! Each rice is well stir-fried and wrapped with the sauce. But honestly speaking, I was too full then to taste the flavor but eat straightly.
Drink: I ordered the hot Rooibos tea as it has no caffeine.
Dessert: A petite lemon tart. Compared with other dishes, this one isn’t very impressive, but still a nice closure to this satisfying meal.
Among all dishes, which one would you like to try the most?
