Eye-popping T.I.F.F. - RECAP of The International Food Festival

First,

I want to express my gratitude to everyone who attended this meetup. Why?

I got to discover that; “many of the Local Guides I know make their food and eat it at home, while the others enjoy their Local cuisine at their restaurants.”

So, of the many Local Guides I know and I am acquainted with, these joined us;

  1. Alpha Sumareh -Cyprus
  2. Shreeya Barai -India
  3. Devi Dimitra Maksum - Indonesia
  4. Abhijeet Hodbe (it was his first time of attending a Meetup) -India
  5. Favour O’ Connor (it was her first time of attending a Meetup) -Nigeria
  6. Isaac -Nigeria
  7. Nita Burman Choudhury -India
  8. Arati Shinde -India
  9. Ratri W. Hapsari -Indonesia
  10. Indah Nuria Savitri -Indonesia
  11. Nyai Nurjanah -Indonesia
  12. Erna LaBeau -U.S.A.
  13. Rosy Kohli - India
  14. Shruti Manjrekar - India
  15. Raghavendra Naik - India
  16. Mohammed Abdul Fasi - Saudi Arabia
  17. Tejal Chhaya - India
  18. Zino - Nigeria

Thank you so much! It was a pleasure to create this with you.

MEETING RECAP

The Meeting was in 5 parts;

  1. The Introduction
  2. Presentation of a Place in your Locality where People can enjoy ‘international cuisine’
  3. Take us to your kitchen and show us how to prepare a dish
  4. Share with us a cooking Hack/ other Tips
  5. Share with us a recipe

INTRODUCTION

  1. TELL US YOUR NAME
  2. WHAT IS FOOD TO YOU?
  3. WHY HAVE YOU ATTENDED THIS MEETUP?
  4. WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO TAKE AWAY?

There were so many exciting responses.

I have to say ; thank you!‌‌

At the end of it all, we came to the conclusion that;

Food isessential to life, provides and secures bonding opportunities, is on a league of its own, gives goosebumps, can mend broken hearts, has complimentary moods :thinking: :hushed: , is a****way to please someone and while there are some who love to eat, they don’t love to cook or even cook anything for that matter.

:grin:

To find out who said what and how they said it; you have to watch the video;

Many people gave many reasons for attending the Meetup, many of these reasons made me feel like a real Princess of High life and I was more than determined to give them a show;

wow! give them a show

Many people attended the Meetup because;they want to see the food from different Local Guides from around the world, share and learn from others, and because of Ewaade :heart_eyes: .

Many people hoped to take away from this meetup, two things;

  • New friendships with Local Guides around the world
  • A new recipe they can try at home.

The introduction was goofy, fun, entertaining and educative.

Next, we moved to; The Presentation.

Several places were presented;

  1. Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria - A five star Hotel that has Chinese and continental restaurants. (Price- Expensive)
  2. Senegambia Beach Hotel, Banjul, Gambia - (Price - Moderate)
  3. Kairaba Beach Hotel, Serrekunda, Gambia (Expensive)
  4. Tamani Kafe, Jakarta, Indonesia (Price - a little expensive)
  5. Black Bell, Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria (Price - Moderate)
  6. Grand Hyatt Mumbai Hotel and Residences, Mumbai, India (Price - Moderate)

Local Guides loved to eat at the locations shared for various reasons;

  1. Cuisine - many of the places had a fusion of local and international cuisines. At Oriental, there is a dedicated Chinese restaurant, at Grand Hyatt, a dedicated Thai cuisine, At Tamani Kafe, a blend of Malaysian, Indonesian, Western etc.
  2. Ambience - the lighting, the interior decor
  3. Environmental Preservation - At Black bell, pollution is minimized by using electrical appliances in making food, the front is decorated with natural flowers shared by @Mayford
  4. Affordability
  5. Accessible features available
  6. Friendly staff

KITCHEN EPISODE

@Tejal was kind enough to take us to her kitchen, where she taught us how to prepare Churma Laddu :grin: ; an indian snack that can stay unspoiled for a whole month without any form of refrigeration. She shared and showed us the ingredients, the recipe and the stages in the Preparation :grin:

After which she shared with us; Chyavanprash; a kind of Crush made from Amla used as a Multivitamin Ayurvedic Medicine with milk or without milk. After preparation, this can last for a whole year without preservation!

COOKING HACK/ TIPS

  1. Hack: To save time expended in cooking especially if you have to wake up very early the next day to do it, prepare all your ingredients from a night before and put in the freezer or refrigerator. When you are ready to cook the next day, simply bring them out and mix it! This greatly saves cooking time. Shared by @Ddimitra
  2. Tip: Upon rising daily, mix into a glass of hot water; half lemon and honey. This serves as a kind of immunity drink that would make you digest your food better throughout the day, you may also add a pinch of turmeric, the turmeric works for the skin. Shared by @Shreeya_99

RECIPE

** @Shrut19 **shared with us Daal, Rice and Stuffed Brinjal (a form of eggplant) that can be found in almost every Indian restaurant in the world and whose ingredients are available the world over and a form of tasty Indian Snack; Paani Puri.

It was a warm day, filled with ‘intimate conversations’ as it concerns food, please check the Photo Album to catch our various excited looks.

Have you tried International cuisine in your locality? Please share the link to the place in the comments using Google Maps.

Thank you.

Lovely recap as always @Ewaade_3A

In my locality, I love trying Japanese and Chinese food. My favorite places to get Japanese food in Abuja are Miso and 4guys. I love the Shabu Shabu at Miso and the Teppanyaki at 4guys.

AND IT WAS so much fun learning and sharing from you the tip and learning that there is a proper mood for every kind of food.

I loved how you said; “don’t bother about calories or anything, just eat it! eat it! eat it!” :rofl:

You had a ‘drunk in love’ look and all for food? Wowza! @Shreeya_99

Zino, I am coming to Abuja soon, let me not hear you are busy o! Please keep three days spare for me. I won’t look at this picture, I refuse to look at it. By the way, I never tried Japanese food before now. I am ‘now grateful’ you did not present this, we would have gone dizzy with hunger. @Zino

I love you so, so, much up to a point of bias and you know it.

Thank you for cheering me up always and for always introducing me to new people. More than Local Guides talk, I like the ‘space’ we share. You are my friend, and that’s enough for me. @Shrut19
