Exploring local flavours with Google maps

When I land in a new city, especially one where I have no local friends, I feel disconnected. One thing I find useful to feel connected is to figure out and use public transport. The other is Google Maps. Sometimes people make a connection and this shows in their review. Sometimes I make a connection with the review and this translates into a connection with the point of interest.

It is comforting to read a friendly, honest review in a new, unfamiliar city. I love to eat where the locals eat but these places are not easy to find. Sometimes they are landmarks in their own right and easy enough but there are plenty of hidden gems that are not looking for extra marketing. These are the places I want to find and share with the world. From the hole in the wall with the best seekh kababs in the world to the whiskey bar with a thousand whiskies.
