Exploring Lehua Night Market : A Culinary Adventure Amidst Traffic (New Taipei City)

Lehua Night Market 樂華夜市 is located in Yonghe District, New Taipei City, which also happens to be the most densely populated administrative district in Taiwan. With over 37,000 people per square kilometer, it’s no surprise that the area is teeming with a wide variety of delectable cuisine.

Surrounded by residential buildings, with a road running through the middle, visitors to Lehua Night Market need to be cautious of motorcycles coming from behind. However, even with the challenge of sharing the road with motorcycles, the desire to explore the local delicacies cannot be hindered. Here are four must-try snacks that I always indulge in when visiting Lehua Night Market:

Transportation:
MRT| Take the Orange Line (Zhonghe Line) to Dingxi Station.

Exit from Exit 1 and walk along Yonghe Road until you reach Yongping Road.

The walk takes approximately 10 minutes.

阿爸の芋圓 樂華店 A-ba’s Taro Ball Lehua Shop (on google map)

Even those who aren’t regular night market-goers are drawn to this dessert shop. If you visit with a few friends, you must try their signature Taro Crushed Ice. It features taro paste, taro balls, mini tangyuan (glutinous rice balls), fen yuan (sweet potato balls), and coix seed as toppings, yet it’s not overly sweet—a true marvel! The fen yuan has a unique tea flavor, and when paired with the mildly sweet crushed ice, it simply melts in your mouth. It’s the perfect dessert to end your night market adventure.

樂華夜市三鮮羹 Lehua Night Market Three Delicacies Soup (on google map)

I always order the Three Delicacies Soup with rice cakes. The rice cakes have a satisfying chewiness, and the soup allows you to enjoy three different textures of fish, squid, and shrimp. The only downside is that it can be a bit too hot to consume during summer. If you want to avoid the crowds, you can visit their second branch, which has a smaller queue and offers a dine-in option.

樂華涼拌手撕雞 Lehua Cold Tossed Hand-Shredded Chicken (on google map)

When you crave something light and refreshing during the summer but grow tired of hot pot, you must try the hand-shredded chicken. Unlike the peppery and salty flavor of saltwater chicken, this Thai-style hand-shredded chicken has a slightly sweet and tangy taste that elevates the dish. The addition of bamboo shoots and peanuts adds multiple layers of texture. If you arrive around 5:30 PM on weekdays, you won’t have to wait in line.

大興果汁 Daxing Fruit Juice (on google map)

Aside from bubble milk tea, fruit juice stands are a staple in Taiwanese night markets. And when you visit Lehua Night Market, you mustn’t miss out on a cup of Papaya Milk from Daxing Fruit Juice. Their papaya milk stands out from others in Taipei, as its color alone indicates its richness. Whether you order it without sugar or with, it’s fragrant, sweet, and refreshing, without feeling heavy.

Despite the challenges of sharing the road with motorcycles, the culinary treasures found here are worth it. Come and experience the vibrant Lehua Night Market, where the thrill of the night blends seamlessly with the flavors of the city. Here is my food list at the Lehua Night Market. In addition to these four shops, there are many more choices. If you have a big appetite, come and explore!

Hi @MrHulk ! No worries, there’re lots of options for vegetarian, including sweet and savory foods. Those four shops are just my recommendation haha. BTW, the Taro crushed ice is vegetarian :slightly_smiling_face:
