Welcome to the start of the weekend (yes, it’s only Thursday/Friday depending on where you are… but it’s always good to think about the weekend when Friday rolls along ) so here’s my next post featuring the Guan Yin Tang temple in Miri, Sarawak. It is the fourth and final temple that we visited so you’ll be glad to know that temple posts will be replaced with something new soon!
If you didn’t catch any of my previous posts, you can find them in the links below! Basically, three other Local Guides from West Malaysia ( @StephenAbraham and @MalaysiaAsia from Kuala Lumpur, @EugeneWong from Penang) and myself had a mini trip to Miri at the end of June (oh, how time flies!) and we had the pleasure of visiting a ton of places, which we gladly documented and shared on Maps through our reviews, photos/videos uploads, business adding/editing etc.
At Guan Yin Tang temple, our visit was shorter than the last three partly because we’ve been rushing all over taking photos/videos since early in the morning and partly because we were just starving!! Nonetheless, there was still quite a bit to see at the temple and you can join us in our exploration by watching the video below.
If you know your Chinese culture/beliefs, you would immediately recognise that the temple is named after the famous Guan Yin, goddess of Compassion and Mercy! I have to admit that I am completely ignorant on the subject matter and I also never watch any of the Journey to the West materials (movies, series and numerous adaptations of the uber popular novel).
And unsurprisingly, dragons are on feature again! Bright, colourful and literally everywhere! In the video, I did another ‘fly through’ shot with the camera gliding around the compound and showing the many views of the temple. I didn’t get to capture much inside the temple, as we were advised by staff to not do any filming in there.
Anyway, here are more photos from the day but do definitely watch the brief video to get a better idea of this fantastic temple!
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about this temple and watching the video! Do check out the posts (and videos) of the three other temples and I would love to know which is your favourite!! . They are quite similar in style but are also quite wildly different when you start looking into the details and scale of the buildings/decorations. As always, pop any questions you have in the comments!!
