Exploring Bhimbandh Wildlife Sanctuary

The year 2020 has definitely made me explore the places near my hometown. And the recent place I visited is Bhimbandh. It’s a beautiful place with hot water springs around that maintain nearly the same temperature all year round.

It’s in Bihar, a state in India. Inside the deep Kharagpur forest, there’s this scenic spot with a natural waterfall surrounded by hills from three sides. According to Mahabharata, Bheema, one of the Pandavas, constructed a dam (bandh) here and therefore it is called Bhimbandh and also known for warm water sources.

It’s also famous as a picnic spot which is more crowded during Christmas, New Year and Sankranti.

@ashmita19 exploring locally has been a positive spot amidst everything this year as many Guides have been able to find great places near them that they would not have found otherwise.

Are visitors allowed to go into the waters here or no because of the wildlife? Also what type of wildlife did you happen to find here?

Would love to see more photos!

Thank you for sharing the information and a nice photo of this less-known place.

Is this place reachable by a good quality road?

Are there also any lodging facilities nearby?

Hii @SP31 ,

Happy to help here.

It’s a very backward area and only recommended to visit between Dec 20 - Jan 15.

The picture which I had posted above, that water is too hot. You can even boil egg in that  . So, definitely not recommended to go into the water.

But there are alternatives as well,

  1. Government has built separate pools for men and women with controlled temperature for safety.

  2. There are two water streams, one with this hot and another with cold water and they merge into one at a point, that’s where people usually get into water and enjoy the place.

I didn’t find any wildlife there since it was crowded because we went on Christmas. But it is told that Bears, Black Panther, Peacock, Water Buffaloes etc are there in the forest.

Hello @TusharSuradkar ,

Since this place is in the middle of the forest, there is a drive for around 6-7 km which is off road.

Closest big city to this place is called Jamui (Bihar, India) which is approximately 30 km away from this place. There you can find lodging facilities in reasonable amount.
