Do you believe in dreams coming true? I do! In July 2018 I had the chance to spend a month in Indonesia and visit the world-renowned island Bali. Before going there, I would have never imagined what I was about to discover! There I was amazed by all the breathtaking places and activities that I can explore such as diving, snorkeling, surfing, rafting, the ancient temples, volcanoes and much more!
Going to a country which is thousands of miles away from my home, I knew I was to expect and face many new challenges. There was my first moment when I unknowingly became a Local Guide. Throughout my whole journey I was using the Google Maps application on my phone - being totally dependent on it. Every time I wanted to visit a new place, to look for directions or get lost and explore the things on my own, I would always check on the app what is around me and see what other people recommend visiting. After stopping over a certain place I would leave a review and add photos so others can also benefit. This is one of the things I’ve found most interesting as a Local Guide so far.
Being in love with nature, I wanted to get the maximum of this marvelous island and at the same time experience many new activities. I decided to create a list of some of my most favorite places in Bali and hoping that there are other Local Guides like me who are in love with nature and fun activities.
Firstly, on the island of Bali I had the opportunity to swim with dolphins and feed them! The feeling of getting into the water and making such close contact with such a dolphin is really amazing and brings you peace and joy. There you can also find many other kinds of living creatures such as skates, etc.
I love dolphins because they are very playful and know a lot of numbers, however I recommend you to go in the morning, because after that they usually get tired and wouldn’t pay as much attention.
Another thrilling experience that I loved a lot in Bali is the safari in the jungle. This was my first time seeing an elephant for real and at the beginning I was a bit overwhelmed. Then I had time to enjoy a ride on the elephant amidst numerous palm trees, banana trees and small oases. After the ride, I had the chance to enjoy feeding the elephant with a watermelon, washing it and taking lots of photos.
In Bali I had the chance to accomplish a dream - to learn surfing! I decided to visit a Surfing school. There professionals first teach all beginners on the land, and then everyone goes into the sea and starts practicing with a surfboard and the teacher helping you get on the surf and ride the wave. This was an unforgettable adventure and a unique experience!
If you are searching for heart-stopping activities like me, here is the Rafting in the jungles of Bali. This is an exciting adventure on a river somewhere in the mountains amidst huge vegetation, monkeys and other animals. The boats would go around different rocks, whirlpools and strong currents and the whole adventure ends with a 4 meter waterfall boat jump.
5. Scuba Diving
Scuba Diving is one of the most magical adventures you can enjoy in Bali. Diving into the underwater world of the Indian Ocean and the blue depths was something truly unforgettable for me. There I found many friends of the sea 8 meters deep.
Something that I loved a lot was carrying a small loaf of bread to feed the fish and they immediately surrounded me. If you are lucky you may encounter NEMO fish and some octopods.
