Goa is one of the twenty-eight states of India; it is relatively a small state.
The Museum of Goa (MOG) is a contemporary art museum situated in Goa, India. Founded in 2015 by renowned Goan artist Subodh Kerkar, the museum is unique in that it is a privately owned initiative. MOG exhibits a diverse range of art forms, including paintings, sculptures, installations, photography, and mixed-media works. Many of the exhibits explore themes related to Goa’s colonial past, its natural beauty, and its multicultural environment.
The museum’s mission is to make art accessible to a wide audience. It brings together artists, collectors, and the public in a space that fosters creativity. The museum hosts workshops, talks, film screenings, and educational programs aimed at nurturing a deeper understanding of contemporary art. It also collaborates with artists from around the world, facilitating cross-cultural exchanges.
The museum has three floors, with space left for future development. It also has an affordable cafe with a limited menu. The cafe’s speciality is preparing the food freshly according to your order, which usually delays the delivery of the dishes. The food quality is outstanding. The museum also has a children’s workshop and an open area where certain exhibits are displayed.
Personal finding:
The entrance fee of Rs.250/—is very high for common visitors who may not have many takeaways from this gallery. Also, it is located a bit inside and needs a private vehicle to reach. I visited this museum during a family trip to Goa for four days.
This is one of the many museums that originate as private collections.
Mostly they are in private places like residences, offices, etc.
They plead with the government to provide grants or space to host these.
I visited one such private museum in Gurugram: Folk & Tribal Art Museum, gurugram
The collection and artifacts are amazing.
Excellent photography @TravellerG that impressively showcase the exhibits
