Excoticism of Marine Tourism in Weh Island

No wonder Indonesia is dubbed the country of thousands of islands. As an Indonesian citizen, he must know one of the national songs entitled ‘Dari Sabang Sampai Merauke’, the song describes that Indonesia has a range of islands from the west to the east end that are united despite being multicultural. There is a lot of wealth that Indonesia has, such as natural resources and several regions that have tourism potential that can increase the country’s foreign exchange.

Sabang, the city is located on the western tip of Indonesia, Weh Island. The island has a different tourist attraction than other islands in Indonesia. Sabang has several tourist spots that can be explored by tourists. Of course marine tourism in Sabang is a haven for tourists. The entire corner of the beach area in Sabang has such a beautiful panorama with the color of blue sea water. However, some of the marine tourism areas which are the favorite areas for tourists, one of them is Rubiah Island.

Rubiah Island

I had a chance to visit Rubiah Island to do snorkeling. The small island is one of the uninhabited islands in Sabang. Yes, when I visited Rubiah Island in 2016 it was still quiet residents. There are only a few merchant who selling the foods. Actually, they are native to Iboih Island, an island opposite the Rubiah Island. Although uninhabited, this one island has an underwater exoticism that is able to attract foreign tourists for snorkelling, diving. Indeed, not many people knew of the existence of this island at that time, because Rubiah Island became known in 2011. The island is not far from Iboih. It only takes about 10-15 minutes using a ‘kelotok’ boat to Rubiah Island.

The tourists who spend the night on Iboih Island can enjoy the beautiful panorama of the sea. If you want to dive or snorkel, you can order a package there, because many agents offer diving packages. It’s a shame if you’ve come far there if you don’t enjoy the underwater panorama. A variety of coral reefs and types of marine fish that distinguish between Iboih Beach and Rubiah Island. As previously explained, tourists who want to snorkel are required to rent a boat to Rubiah Island.

However, what about tourists who do not want to snorkel, but want to feel the beauty of coral reefs and beautiful fish? Don’t worry about that! Because, at Iboih Beach also rents a glass boat that can accommodate a maximum of 12 people at a rate of IDR 350,000 per boat on a round-trip route. Meanwhile, for tourists who want to dive will be offered a number of mainstay spots with a list of 30 diving spots on Pulau Weh.

Divers will be given direction first by the guide before diving in the spot to be chosen. Spot is chosen based on the level or expertise of divers, namely Scuba Divers, Open Water Diver, Master Scuba Diver. Don’t forget there also offers photo services in water. So, don’t forget to capture the best moments while enjoying the underwater beauty on Rubiah Island.

Rubiah Island is a must-visit destination for tourists visiting Pulau Weh. However, the island also has several other tourist areas, such as Zero Kilometer Monument, Anoi Itam Japanese Fortress, Sumur Tiga Beach, and others.
