Everything is about BEEF in Makassar #ProvinceChallenge South Sulawesi, Indonesia

If you are a meat lovers either beef or pork, then exploring the culinary in Makassar, the capital city of South Sulawesi, Indonesia could be a great choice! This port city offers many delicious cuisines that is mostly made from MEAT.

And if you are a fan of beef, let me introduce you to this six kind of Makassar local dishes made from beef.
Caution : watch out your cholesterol level! :see_no_evil:

1. Coto Makassar
You definitely cannot miss this food if you are in Makassar as you could find Coto Makassar easily along this city from the cheapest to the expensive one. Coto Makassar is an offal beef stew dish where the soup is made with a lot of spices and boiled for a long time. It is served on a small bowl.

We could request for some parts of the beef that we like. So, if you do not like beef offal, you could have the meat part only. I mostly choose the mix part. There are beef meat, liver, lung, tongue, spleen, heart, tripe, served with green and fried onions. Eat them together with buras (Makassar thick rice cake wrapped in banana leaf), also lime and chili if you love spicy. Buras could change the role of rice as the carbohydrate. I recommend this coto putih (white coto) from Coto Daeng Sirua.

2. Sop Konro
This is the soup dish made with beef ribs or meat. Some restaurants and home cooking might serve it in thick and oily soup, whereas some might be in watery and clear soup.

This Eid al-Adha when our Moslem friends sacrifice the halal animals, such as goat and beef, a friend in Makassar delivered me the home cooking Sop Konro. I was so grateful for that. This Sop Konro is served with buras, lime, and chili as well.

3. Konro Bakar
Konro is originally served as a soup (Sop Konro), but now there is a dry version, which is Konro Bakar. This one is grilled beef ribs served with thick peanut sauce, fried onions, and the plain soup that is served separately.

4. Pallubasa
A savory soup dish with grated coconut served with any kind of beef parts, such as the meat, cheek, even until the beef offal part that we could choose. Served it with white rice. You could also add the raw egg directly to the Pallubasa. Enjoy it with lime and chili. The famous pallubasa that you cannot miss in Makassar is Pallubasa Serigala.

5. Sop Saudara
In Bahasa Indonesia, “saudara” means brother or sister. H. Dollahi as the founder of this dish gave that name with the aim to make everyone who enjoys this dish at his restaurant could feel the brotherhood with the owner, staffs, and fellow Sop Saudara consumers.

Sop Saudara is a beef based soup with beef lung, liver, heart, cheek, white rice vermicelli, spring and fried onions. Served this soup with lime and chili if you like spicy, then eat it together with white rice.

6. Sop Ubi
“Ubi” in Bahasa Indonesia means sweet potato, whereas in Makassar local language, “ubi” could be either sweet potato or cassava. If you prefer to have a beef dish in a clear soup, then Sop Ubi could be a great choice for you.

Sop Ubi consists of beef in cubes piece, fried cassava, white rice vermicelli, beansprouts, green onions, fried onions in a clear soup. Again and as usual, Makassar cuisines will not be far away to be served with lime and chili
Try the delicious Sop Ubi in the modest place at Warung Sop Ubi Lembu.

This post is the part of #ProvinceChallenge of South Sulawesi, Indonesia organized by @Denise_Barlock and @jayasimha78 with me as the guest host on 21 August 2021.

とても気になります:smiling_face:

Impressive @Velvel

All such excellent-looking dishes and well explained. Offal meats are a bit too gamey for me, but I did like 3. Konro Bakar.

Hello @minmi

Sorry to hear about that. Please get well very soon and stay safe

Nice to hearing from you again. Do what you love and eat what you like. I believe you will recover soon!

The weather in Jakarta is so hot lately :sunglasses:

That’s why, finding cold dessert is really suitable. Perhaps I should find Thai coconut ice cream soon

So, how’s Japan? Does autumn come already?
