Now that the CL26 announcements have been made and the initial splurge of organisation and messages etc has been and gone, I have a suggestion:
Seeing as there are some people disappointed not to be invited to CL, and the there seems to be no EuroMeetUp this year (so far) and no one wanting to take responsibility for organising it, how about this:
We hold a less “hosted” EuroMeetUp 2026 along the following lines:
We announce a city and a dates; as usual we all book our own accommodation and travel, and meet-up when we are there.
We’d have a pared back agenda along these lines:
Day 1 (Thursday): Welcome 'get together’ at a bar; folks sort out their own meals before meeting at the bar.
Day 2 (Friday): 10am Meet at Venue 1 to explore; 12-2pm Break for lunch (free to roam and sort your own meals out); 2pm Meet at Venue 2 to explore; 4pm Free time to do your own thing; 6pm Sort out your dinner; 8pm Meet at bar for evening socials
Day 3 (Saturday): Repeat but with different places
Day 4 (Sunday): Farewell
I’d appreciate comments, advice, people telling me it’s a wonderful idea, people telling me it’s a dangerous idea, or anything in between. If it happens I’d also appreciate help - I’d make suggestions and timings but not take responsibility for arrangements or problems.
First suggestion: Copenhagen, arrive Thursday June 18, leave Sunday June 21st. (Checked this with Morten. He’s happy for us to come, might organise a treasure hunt if his availability allows, but understandably because of other commitments, can’t take the lead).
So over to you all…… to see if there’s any distance in the idea or whether to put it to bed as a whim. Is anyone available on those dates? I’m sure, if we go ahead, there will be suggestions and advice, and the event will evolve - but it would be good to keep the annual EuroMeetUp alive!
