EuroMeetUp 2026 - A Suggestion

Now that the CL26 announcements have been made and the initial splurge of organisation and messages etc has been and gone, I have a suggestion:

Seeing as there are some people disappointed not to be invited to CL, and the there seems to be no EuroMeetUp this year (so far) and no one wanting to take responsibility for organising it, how about this:

We hold a less “hosted” EuroMeetUp 2026 along the following lines:
We announce a city and a dates; as usual we all book our own accommodation and travel, and meet-up when we are there.

We’d have a pared back agenda along these lines:
Day 1 (Thursday): Welcome 'get together’ at a bar; folks sort out their own meals before meeting at the bar.
Day 2 (Friday): 10am Meet at Venue 1 to explore; 12-2pm Break for lunch (free to roam and sort your own meals out); 2pm Meet at Venue 2 to explore; 4pm Free time to do your own thing; 6pm Sort out your dinner; 8pm Meet at bar for evening socials
Day 3 (Saturday): Repeat but with different places
Day 4 (Sunday): Farewell

I’d appreciate comments, advice, people telling me it’s a wonderful idea, people telling me it’s a dangerous idea, or anything in between. If it happens I’d also appreciate help - I’d make suggestions and timings but not take responsibility for arrangements or problems.

First suggestion: Copenhagen, arrive Thursday June 18, leave Sunday June 21st. (Checked this with Morten. He’s happy for us to come, might organise a treasure hunt if his availability allows, but understandably because of other commitments, can’t take the lead).

So over to you all…… to see if there’s any distance in the idea or whether to put it to bed as a whim. Is anyone available on those dates? I’m sure, if we go ahead, there will be suggestions and advice, and the event will evolve - but it would be good to keep the annual EuroMeetUp alive!

Message me below, or privately!

UPDATE: So I’m glad I was at least able to initiate a discussion, leading to EuroMeetUp 2026.

After I made this suggestion, loads of wonderful people started to discuss various options on social media (and presumably amongst Moderators and Googlers as well although outside my remit), and a poll was taken amongst those who have attended previous EuroMeetUps. The result of the poll was that people who have previously attended EuroMeetUps would prefer EuroMeetUp26 to be ajacent to ConnectLive Dublin 2026 in some way (as in @JanVanHaver‘s comment)

So, I’m pleased to be able to link here to the unofficial EuroMeetUp 2026 put together by @AdrianLunsong and I’m looking forward to catching up with many friends and making new ones in Dublin on 8-10 May……not too far away!

SO HERE’S THE LINK TO EUROMEETUP DUBLIN 2026. Please do consider if you are able to join. It would be great to see you there.

Another possibility would be to tack in to CL26 in Dublin and start it on Friday evening (May 8) until Sunday (May 10).

Within Ryanair being based in Ireland, there are cheap flights to Dublin from lots of countries.

@PeteMHW wow lucky those who are geographically close for this plan! I’d absolutely love those trips if I were based in Europe.

Wishing you all the best with your plans and trip! :ok_hand:

This is a wonderful idea, @PeteMHW !

I consider myself very lucky to have the opportunity to meet and learn from passionate Local Guides like you.
I have heard a lot about the Euro Meetup that takes place every year, and I would love to experience that alongside the official Google event.

That’s why I agree with @JanvanHaver’s idea, if the Euro Meetup could happen around the same dates, it would be a fantastic opportunity for new Local Guides like me to connect and learn more from all of you.

Because of my job commitments, my return is scheduled for May 9th.

I am very excited to meet everyone

Apologies for not commenting on here @PeteMHW ! I’ve been spread thin across many spinning plates but at least we got to discuss this on Telegram/WhatsApp with you directly or with the other past EuroMeetup attendees too.

Personally, I love the Copenhagen idea since I’ve not been there and the dates suit me better but we’re going along with the poll results to ensure maximum compatibility with everyone’s availability. Perhaps, we can do Copenhagen next year!!

And I agree with @LudwigGermany that we probably need to do a reset on the expectations for EuroMeetup! The bar does not need to be set so high!

Anyway, I’m still scouting around for a host/co-host for Dublin since I am unlikely to be there so if anyone is interested, feel free to reach out to me! Thanks!
