Eternal places confusion in Maps

Hi!

Sorry guys, I re-type this text for the 2nd time… I’ll shorten it now because I’m a busy French Dad…

Found a village next to my town not well covered… Went there, shot all missing places, gone back to house to submit that stuff…

Then I have several problems with that, but in this contribution I’m gonna speak only about the name confusion.

There’s 2 places in the same neighborhood with similar names but 2 différents meanings and 1 of them is already created so far :
Le Château de Fourques (a true old French Castle)
and 2 hundreds meters away
L’ Ancien Château d’Eau de Fourques (a WATER TOWER with aesthetic and historical interests)

In this case, when I’m submitting the water tower, Maps warns me "There’s a few places with similar names :

  • The Castle of Fourques
  • Fourques - housing estate
    Back or Keep submitting"

I clicked “Keep submitting”, meaning, to me, that I’m creating a NEW place…

Then, several times, I added photos…

I received the “OK” e-mail feedback from Google…

I waited 24 hours…

Unfortunately : Maps shows the Water Tower pictures with the name “Castle of Fourques” -(the true castle) at the true Castle location…

I tried about 10 times in 3 days, no correct result.

What can I do?
How to speak to a true human being from Google to find a solution for that?

Toodeloo

I know exactly what you mean, because it happened to me too recently, when I added 3 water fountains in the same area.

In my case the issue was the name and the same category. Google approved all my edits but at the end merged everything in a single one.

I think this is due to an enhanced algorithm to prevent duplicates of a place.

What category did you used to the water tower?

Thx,

I used a “Historical Site”…

By the way, I’m not sure if that’s the same in English but I can’t find the categories “Monument”, “Historical Monument”, “Plaque commémorative” (memorial plate), “Monument commémoratif”, “vestiges” or “Ruines” (remainings of a monument or a building)…

Hi @GeorgesRedOre

Thanks for the feedback. It would be great if you tag the person you are responding to by using @. In this way we will not miss the notification (Active members are responding in a lot of post, so a tag make it easier to interact)

I think you are talking about this castle, and the water tower seems to be the one in the bottom of the screenshot. Am I right?

Yes, Historical Landmark make sense, so probably the issue is in the name itself, as it is recalling the name of the castle, and the Location (Fourques) should be normally avoided in the name. I would try to add the place as “Château d’Eau”, or “Ancien Château d’Eau”, to avoid confusion in the naming
