How did you decide on the category Memorial?

Hi @MortenCopenhagen! To be honest, when creating the place, I searched for options related to “monument” or “landmark”, but I couldn’t find a category that precisely matched it. “Memorial” seemed like the closest option available at the time. What category would you recommend for this type of point of interest?

@Luciano_Rodriguez thank you for taking initiative. It is really nice to see & know about this place virtually.
Using “Memorial” implies that this place is meant to honor someone or something. Is that the case?
I remember a similar discussion where someone called an installation a “Tourist attraction”. But I doubt it’s fair to call this a tourist attraction.
The consequence of not using the appropriate and precise category can result in the place being deleted from Google Maps sooner or later. Google created and maintains the list of categories with the intent to explain what places should be added on Maps. Places with no precise and obvious category are in fact, not meant to be on Maps. This is why I’m warning about this. This might not be permanent on Maps.
You did not add a website to the listing. Maybe the local authorities have a website that clarifies what this is built to remember.
Or maybe @JanVanHaver can suggest a more appropriate category.
So being in doubt was actually a good thing.

Hi @Annaelisa! Thank you so much for your comment and for visiting my profile!
Yes, exactly! The monument is located right on the seaside promenade (Rambla de los Argentinos) in Piriápolis, facing the beach.
Thank you for the suggestion about “Tourist Attraction”, it makes a lot of sense! And I’m glad to know you also enjoy a good paella!

@Luciano_Rodriguez

Hi @Annaelisa! Yes, the seaside promenade is on Google Maps as “Rambla de los Argentinos”. The “Monumento a la Paella” is located right on the pedestrian path of the rambla, facing the beach. There is also a scenic viewpoint nearby!

@Luciano_Rodriguez

@Luciano_Rodriguez my suggestion would be ‘Cultural landmark’ (in Spanish ‘Referente cultural’).
That’s the category I also use for e.g. street art paintings.
