Enjoying life sitting at the table

I’m in love with food. I could put it another way, but I would lie. I really believe that the ability to enjoy a good dish is one of our most distinctive characteristics as a race. I don’t care if I’m the cook or the diner (or both). I don’t care if my wife and kids have gone out and I’m home alone or if we all celebrate family and friendship. Eating and drinking is my way of enjoying and celebrating life and being able to share it with those I love.
But if there is something even more wonderful, it is the possibility of getting to know other peoples and cultures through their food. I can’t understand visiting a new country and community and not trying all its typical dishes. Being able to understand and respect why people eat what they eat makes us people with the most open mind (and I am a terribly open mind person). But if there is something even more wonderful, it is the possibility of getting to know other peoples and cultures through their food. Hamburgers and pizza are fine, but I can’t leave the opportunity to eat pierogi in Krakow, brunost in Oslo or haggis in Glasgow. The culinary richness of all the communities is one of the aspects that drive me to continue travelling and getting to know new places. I can’t understand visiting a new country and community and not trying all its typical dishes.
