I wanted to share the vibrant tapestry of Colombo, Sri Lankaâs bustling capital, my birthday country. I was venturing beyond the tourist spots, delving deep into the heart of the city, and seizing the spirit of Colombo through the lens of street photography.
The following photos were taken over a few years as I visited family and friends. All photos were taken on Canon 5D III with a 24-105ml lens. Donât forget to check out the video below for lots more photos.
Colombo is a city of contrasts, where ancient traditions meet modern aspirations. Our street photography adventure begins by navigating the lesser-known alleys, discovering hidden markets, and capturing the daily life that unfolds away from the typical tourist gaze. From the lively chaos of Pettah to the tranquil corners of Viharamahadevi Park, every frame tells a unique story.
Some photos were taken during Vesak when the City lights up with so much colour.
The true heartbeat of any city resides in its people. Through candid shots and spontaneous interactions, I aimed to portray the diversity, resilience, and warmth of Colomboâs residents. From street vendors with stories etched on their faces to children playing in narrow lanes, every click encapsulates a moment in the life of this dynamic city
No exploration of Colombo is complete without indulging in its delectable street cuisine. From the sizzle of kottu roti to the aroma of hoppers, my photography adventure tried to capture the culinary delights that define Colomboâs street food scene.
Through this visual journey, I aimed not just to showcase Colomboâs beauty but to encapsulate the essence of my birth country.
