Efharistó @VasT for this mouthwatering introduction! ![]()
When i was visiting Thessaloniki, I was also recommended to try mpougatsa, and I had a really good one at Estrella. I can recommend this place to you, and hope I can try the other sweets soon.
@VasT Your collection is so colorful. thank you
Thank you @HoangDang , which of them would you like to try the most?
Thank you @Rozemarijn for mentioning the those 2 restaurants I’ve never been there, I would love to eat some tasty vegan food.
@mdimran0809 , you’re welcome you should visit Greece and try it for yourself!
Might be @Jessprays , we need to compare them. Food and summer are the best excuses to visit Greece! Also, koulouria (plural) come in other shapes as well.
@Ariadlis if I had to choose between them I would say more like a bagel :).
Parakalo (you’re welcome) @turaibalazs . Where are you from? Do you have anything similar in your country?
@Filip_N gyro and souvlakia you can eat anywhere in Greece, but Tsoureki from Terkenlis only in Thessaloniki.
@Sa_Gopi , your post is in Local Stories as it should have been.
@911_Bbro there isn’t a specific word to refer to all of them. Each of them is distinctive food of Thessaloniki.
hello @VasT & fellow local guides!
I’m from Budapest, Hungary. In fact it’s a really good place for someone loving sweet pastries, as it is kind of a crossroad of balkan and the Vienna-style pastries. So we have here everything from burek to baklava, from mille feuilles to strudel. I think the ultimate Hungarian sweet pastry - also a top breakfast choice in the country - is kakaóscsiga, the “cocoa snail” a buttery layered dough rolled up like a spiral and filled with sugary cocoa (depending on the filling lots of variations exists from walnut to cinnamon snails).
Recently more and more artisan bakeries are opening, and cafés are also more serious about the pastries they are offering. Some favourites to recommend:
Cafés
• Börze
• Crudo
• Babka
Bakeries
• Pékműhely and Pékműhely2
• á table (with many branches around the town)
So come to Budapest for a good bite!
I took a look at the places that you’ve recommended, and I am amazed @turaibalazs ! I visited Budapest 7 years ago, and it seems like a good time to come back. Hungarian cuisine is unique indeed. What stood out for me was a pumpkin soup, I don’t think it was traditional but it was the best I’ve ever eaten.
My ancestors are of Balkan descent and this is my kind of food! Great photos and descriptions, really felt like I was there ![]()
Many thanks @Hadasul you made my day!
@VasT you should try Lebanese food!! Greek food is my second favorite food! (maybe because it is similar to Lebanese)
Trust me I like a lot Lebanese cuisine @CatherineKh . I am a fan of tabbouleh, falafel, and Baba Ghanoush. However, I’d rather eat those dishes in Lebanon than in Greece. They must taste 10 times better.
@VasT have you ever been to Lebanon?
No, I’ve never been there @CatherineKh , but I’ll make sure to come just for the food.
