Eat by hand .There still exist ?

Heyy fellow local guides my question is so simple , eat by hand still exist in your daily life ?

caption: lunch with Padang rice , rendang ,gudeg ,green Chili sambal and boiled vegetables

caption . Eat by hand Sundanese food , with green fresh vegetables 'lalapan " sambal terasi, ikan asin , rice

Yes , here especially in Sukabumi Indonesia our traditional daily life eating by hand . Sometimes using spoon but only for soup etc .

As typically person who rarely eating outside ,one think make me curious , I’m never seen someone in formal dinner like in hotel or “high” ( read expensive ) restaurant eat by hand , that’s rules ?? Honestly confused , so much spoon ,fork and knife , chopstick , so just following other , think twice for different and so weird eat by hand but you only one there .

Why my fav still eating by hand , for my self because simple , and reduce job for washing kitchen . Don’t forget before covid 19 spread which everyone campaign wash your hands frequently booming, before and after I did for long while . The other thing or myth is eat by hand give you more delicious taste than by spoon or wood chopstick , I don’t know the true because for me like same as well . If you want your food delicious eat when you really hungry when you healthy .

So if you fellow local guides never eat by hand why not for try at least once time and tell me the true of myth .

Thank you connect see you next post !

Hi Téh @Nyainurjanah

In Nigeria, especially concerning our Igbo meal, we eat Garri and Soup with hands. We eat Akpu mmiri with hand and so much snacks and food. My grandmother still eats spaghetti with her hands because during her time there was no spaghetti and using fork to eat it proves to be so difficult for her. :joy:

I don’t eat rice with hand as seen in your image. wk wk wk.

In fact during my time in boarding school we were force to learn how to eat with cutlery. :plate_with_cutlery: :joy: :fork_and_knife:

Thank you for sharing this beautiful post with us here on connect.

I love this post. it reminds me alot.

Heyy @Nyainurjanah

Yes, we still eat by our hand on everyday basis. In India we still follow this, maybe even our visit in restaurants and local eatery shops we eat by our hand only.

Once I visited the so called high end 5 star hotel I was so awkward eating with those cutleries on the glass plate, we still kept them and ate with our hands :person_gesturing_ok: :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi @Nyainurjanah , thank you for reminding me of this kind of hand feeding. At home I love to eat roast chicken or fish with my hands … there is nothing tastier than that.

Here in Bulgaria it is not accepted in some restaurants in the big cities to eat with your hands, because it is considered unhygienic, but in the villages it is quite accepted and in some places it is considered a tradition.

Best regards!
