Eat a Tunjang

A Tunjang or a Kikil is a part of Cow’s skin, it starts from knee into the bottom of cow’s foot.

In Java island, people like to serve it by stir-fry and sometimes mix with the vegetables.

While in Sumatra region, people serve it into ‘Gulai’ , Gulai is type of food containing rich, spicy and succulent curry (the main ingredients are coconut milk mixed with species such us turmeric, chilly, onions and others stuff).
Gulai Tunjang has rich flavors and a little bit spicy, the texture of Tunjang should be soft and chewy and the taste just right not to spicy and the Satan not to thick.

My personal opinion several Restaurants that serve the best Gulai Tunjang in this Town

  • “Sederhana Restaurant” in Cipayung (near Koream School, East Jakarta), is one of the best serving Gulai Tunjang (fyi, not all "Sederhana Resto has good Gulai Tunjang)
  • “Pagi-Sore Restaurant” in Cipete – South Jakarta
