I heard a lot about a giant waterfall in India which looks like a sea of milk falling on the ground from clouds. It is four-tiered waterfall and gained its popularity after an Indian Bollywood movie named Chennai Express was shot at this place. After watching this movie, I decided to visit this place. There is not much information available about it on the Internet. I decided to visit this place in Monsoon Season (Rainy Season of India) when I can see maximum amount of water in the waterfalls. I visited many places as Local guide, but this is the most wild, difficult and adventurous trip of my life with lots of good and bad experience. I didn’t find cell phone signals at this place.
DudhSagar Falls is a lifetime experience for anyone who is visiting this place in month of July August. Let’s begin with a breathtaking experience with me. There are two ways to reach this place. One is an unofficial route through Indian Railways and another one is the official route by road. The road will help you to some extend and then you will have to be dependent on Muddy patches of dense forest. Going through railways is the best option for those people who want to have lifetime thrilling experience.
There are three places to see this fall and you will get a totally different experience from all the three points. First one is the place where you can see the four-level scenic beauty of this waterfall. This place is exactly 2 kms away from actual waterfall. You can reach out to this scenic beauty by walking 5 Kms from Kulem Railway station towards Castlerock station or by walking 2.5 Kms from Sonalium Railway station towards Kulem Railway Station. It is the best picturesque place I have ever seen in my life.
The Second place is just in between the waterfall. There is a rail bridge on the First tier of this waterfall. Some trains stop for a minute at this point. It is a technical halt station. Trekkers mostly get down at this place or at Sonalium Railway station which is another technical halt nearby to this waterfall. It is always a complete white view where water is always sprinkling, and it will give you a very fresh feeling. Most importantly, you will always feel the cold breeze at this point due to mix sprinkling water with winds.
Third and the most thrilling part of this waterfall is bottom of waterfall. You must go through adventurous trekking to reach the bottom of waterfalls. This waterfall is in the dense forest of Wildlife sanctuary and people must cross through gushy Streamlines of water, which are coming down from high mountains with a very high speed. You might encounter wild animals too.
I started my Journey from IT City Pune, India by train. It took me 10 hours to reach the Sonalium Railway station and I reach there at 3 AM. Sonalium is a technical halt station and not meant for passengers’ movement but it is best place to get down to start thrilling trek for Dudhsagar falls. Train route is unofficial because of no passenger movement from technical halt station but you can still get down at this place but again at your own risk. Imagine getting down from the train at 3AM in center of dense forest and then start your trekking. There is a temple nearby to this station. People who don’t want to trek in the night can go there and wait for sunrise. After sunrise, people can start trekking. Others interested in thrill can take their torch and starts walking in the forest towards base of Dudhsagar Waterfalls. For me, the experience was more adventurous because of heavy rainfall on that day. I covered myself completely with raincoat and starts walking towards the base of Waterfalls.
We encountered lots of Waters streamlines. Water was coming down from the mountains and going towards the Mandovi river. It is difficult to cross those streamlines so the person should be brave enough to cross the water. Someone who doesn’t know how to swim should not go to this place in the rainy season. They can prefer to go in another seasons when they won’t find much water in water streamlines and they would be easy to cross. Someone who knows how to swim can go in rainy season. I am saying all this because there are high chances that you will be washed away by gushing water coming down from the mountains on the way to base of waterfall. We lost a person in a similar incident during this trip. It takes two hours to reach base of waterfall. I reached at base of waterfalls around 7AM. You can take a bath at the base of the waterfall, but you should always stay near bank because lots of rapids in water can wash you out.
After Base of waterfall, I started climbing up towards the railway bridge of Dudhsagar falls. It was muddy and slippery, but I was able to climb up with the help of local villages who see me struggling to climb the hill. Waterfall looks pure white from railway bridge. After that I started walking towards kulem railway station. On the way, I found third and most amazing eye-catching view of the Falls. It looks like heaven. I walked on the side of railway track and it also looks amazing. Imagine a dense forest having railway tracks. You should always be careful of trains because it is a busy route for Freight trains, and they don’t blow horn. At last, my journey ends at kulem station. The train I caught again passed through Dudhsagar falls but didn’t stopped. I took photo from train of that particular place. I visited many countries and many different places in my home country, but this is the best of all. Being a local guide, I want to help people to explore this territory. Mostly trekking group go over there, but even if the solo traveler has appropriate information then he/she can also go for this adventurous trip. Anyone who wants to go to this place can reach out to me. This place is also near to Goa which is hot destination for people all over the world. Tourist/Travelers can add this destination to their Goa Trip.
