When I get the direction from near place to my business location it shows a long-distance route for driving while short distance path is available. This short distance route is a main road with ability to cross two large vehicles and it is available on Google Street View as well. But as shown in the picture, it is shows only a walking route via this short distance path. I have already sent feedback to the google map, but nothing was happened. How can I overcome this problem. This has cost me a lot in term of business. So I would eagerly look for a solution.
Hi @autopropg
Did you select car or walking as you specified the navigation?
Please share the Maps links to the start and end of the navigation.
Cheers
Morten
Thank you for your kind reply and your interest in this matter.
When I select Car as the navigation mode it doesn’t show the shortest path and route through a longer path.
When i select “Recommended Travel Mode” option (shown in below image) it shows both routes but shortest route showing as a walking route (as in image 1 & 2).
Here are the Map links.

When I try on my Android phone I get 14 minutes driving and 17 minutes if you chose to walk the much shorter distance.
To me it looks okay. Are you unhappy to get a suggestion to walk?
Please elaborate on what you think is now working correctly.
Cheers
Morten
Thanks again for your support on this matter.
This is not all about walking through a shorter path. This shorter path is in capability of driving through (even to cross two large vehicles). But it doesn’t appear on Maps for driving. As I’m doing a business in this location, it will discourage customers when see only a longer path available to drive through.
In the above case, I used the starting point as an example. But if you take the below case you will see a clear difference.
Starting Point - https://goo.gl/maps/6oZDZA1PNCZ21sQE9
Ending Point - https://goo.gl/maps/eGXWiXbPxUAUMaxg6
Using shorter path to drive in will reduce the distance by 4.9km and save much time.

If the short distance allow cars the next step is to narrow down which step in navigation is at fault. It will most likely take done testing to figure it out.
When you know, the next step is to report this. It is an elaborate to report this, but it is possible. I recommend you use a desktop computer for this.
I will share more instructions when you identify which road piece is the culprit.

Morten
I tried as you told to find out whether there is a segment of the route where a fault exists. So I tried to navigate a mid location of the road we are considering (see below images) . But navigation works properly in both cases for both directions. What do I need to look for next?
Thanks & Best Regards,

I don’t have a laptop at hand here. But if you navigate from the bridge to your place. Where it fails. Then chop a bit away test again.
Or could it bee that the bridge pin was at the wrong side of the road?
Alternatively we could report the entire navigation, but we need to point to which step in a navigation that is wrong.
The experts on The maps suport forum are very good at helping with such problems.
I’m on vacation so I will not reach my laptop until next Monday.

@MortenCopenhagen , I also had a look. It seems the issue is with the “Uyanwaththa - Boruppa Rd” section.
When we select a starting point within that road section and add the Auto Hybrid… as destination point. Maps provide the correct driving route,
However, if you bring the starting point outside the Uyanwaththa-Borupan Rd, Maps totally neglect the Uyanwaththa-Borupan Rd section and provide other route options which are far too long and time-consuming.
For some reason, maps don’t provide the left turn from Uyanwaththa-Polgolla rd to Uyanwaththa- Borupana Rd.
@autopropg , you have already provided. seems we overlapped. Looking at both your test and mine it appears that something is wrong with the junction. Let’s see what @MortenCopenhagen thinks
if I had to guess it seems the connection between Uyanwatta-Boruppa Road and Uyanwatta-Polgolla Road is not properly made. But when I check the Fix Rd option it apers the connection seem all right
Hi @ravindus
Thanks for your support and interest in this point.
Exactly! You are on point. It’s like Maps neglect “Uyanwatta-Boruppa Road”.
But still couldn’t find out a root cause for this. When we select a location in the middle of the road it works perfectly.
Thanks & Best Regards,
AutoProPG
@autopropg , I feel the connection between Uyanwatta-Boruppa Road and Uyanwatta-Polgolla Road is not properly made, and hence Maps doesn’t identify there is a possible left turn. All up to the google dev team to figure out.
@ravindus , Good Point! But can we think there is no issue with that junction as locations at the middle of the root navigate perfectly. (See below example)
I checked that for the junction on the other side of the road. It works perfectly. (see below image)
Thanks & Best Regards,
AutoProPG
it all depends on how maps have identified your start location. I feel it has identified the starting point(middle of the junction as part of Uyanwaththa-Borupana rd. When we draw rads we draw them to overlap with the connecting rds so it could be the reason.
When I select a slightly away starting point maps doesn’t see a left turn to Uyanwaththa-Borupana rd at that point
Diging a bit deeper I think I found where is the issue. It’s at the other end of the rd. As long as you select an End destination point within the uyanwaththa-Borupan rd up to the marked junciton in the SS below maps gives the correct route. But when you select the endpoint on past that junction maps gets it wrong. So the issue should be at that junction.
At @MortenCopenhagen , What ever causes the issue is at this particular junction https://goo.gl/maps/3g46JSj1C9oKpbEZ6
I’m happy to see that you narrowed down the problem, @ravindus and @autopropg .
Here are some instructions on how to report such an issue
I suggest you provide feedback about the incorrect navigation step using a desktop computer.
This link will explain how to do so.
Cue up directions so the faulty step will show up. Here yiu need to be a bit creative. Maybe you need to make the navigation by walking and then explain what the problem is when using car navigation.
Then select Send feedback which is found at the bottom of the map (not the left panel).
Then click on the flag by the faulty navigation step.
Then select Problem type. Then you can add some notes.
Use the notes to explain in very clear detail what the problem is. Please specify the exact GPS coordinates where relevant. Also, include deep links to Google Streetview if relevant. The more clear detail, the better.
It can take 2-3 weeks before changes show on the map. Google will not notify you about the result. Just check the map once a week or so.

Explain something like
This step is fine when biking/walking. But not possible when navigating by car on Google Maps. In real life this route IS possible by cars also. And this is what needs to be fixed.
Cheers
Morten
Thak you @MortenCopenhagen & @ravindus for your extensive support for solving this issue. After providing a feedback regarding the issue, finally it is solved. Now the map routes perfectly with the directions.
cheers!!
