Dolls Theatre

Three days long Dolls Theatre festival was held at Shishir Mancha, Kolkata. 6 different play by 6 different group were staged in these three days.

Dolls theatre is a traditional format of India. The base story is often derived from Hindu Mythology or contemporary social and political issue. Although dolls theatres are specially for children, but it always played a great role to portray contemporary social and political issues. One can know more about this in the book ’ Putul Nacher Itikotha ’ by famous Bengali writer Sri Manik Bandyopadhyay. Whether a translated version is available or not is not known to me. Need not to mention that the characters are dolls only moved by artist hidden behind a opaque curtain.

This strong and traditional performing art is getting obsolete gradually.
