If you are a fan of the Star Wars movies (and who isn’t???) the brand new Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge expansion is something you will want to visit. Disneyland, California opened the gates to their new land on May 31 of this year.
Galaxy’s Edge takes place within the village of Black Spire Outpost, on the wild frontier planet of Batuu, and features several attractions, shops, restaurants, and entertainment offerings.
The only major ride open right now is Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Currently, you cannot get fastpasses for this ride. The wait was a full hour on Thursday morning when we arrived. It got a lot longer during the weekend.
Food at Disneyland is far better than any other amusement park and the food in this new expansion is living up to expectations! We decided to have dinner at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo. I give it 5 stars! Best dinner I’ve had in Disneyland this trip!
Going to the park during the mid-week meant very light crowds. Many people are staying away because we all expected massive crowds. This was a great chance to get to experience this new addition to The Happiest Place on Earth!
What an amazing experience! Was this your first visit to Disneyland? I’ve never been, but the Star Wars part would be really cool to see. Are the tickets expensive? I bet it’s really crowded as well? Did you see other parts of Disneyland?
Loved your write-up and tour through the new expansion. The highlight of this for me, even as a Star Wars fan, was the food! The food looked amazing! Who knew that the food in the park would be that quality? I also loved how most the dishes are served in little cast iron pans! Did you try ay desserts?
hi @KimberlyAnnG ! what did you think of it? we visited a few weeks ago before the full opening (and made a video!!!) and thought it was awesome, a totally immersive experience like nothing else in disneyland! the actual ride made me so motion sick, tho, that i really thought i was going to . also, totally agree that the food was way better than typical disneyland fare. i was really interested to read that attendance numbers are lower than expected, i would have thought people would be flocking to it.
@DanniS SO MANY questions! No, this is far from my first trip to Disneyland. I’ve tweeked my title for the post. I think that something as large as Disneyland deserves a series of posts! I’ll try to do a deep dive into each of your questions that way!
You’re most welcome @AdamGT My personal preference would be to go any weekday and completely skip weekends. This visit was unusual in that the crowd numbers are down (lots of reasons) so Thursday and Friday were spectacular. We went on Saturday mainly to shop…lines were back to crazy so not too many rides.
@JordanSB I have always thought that Disney park food was far superior to any other amusement park I’ve ever visited. That is a very low bar though, considering how awful most of them are. There are always dishes that amaze me when I enjoy them in this setting.
YES!!! We did dessert and that will require a post of it’s own! The latest craze in Disney is to offer “specialty” food items at special times of the year. We love to read the Disney food blogs before heading to the park. See what’s “in season”!
Hey @SuzanneN !!! Excellent video! I love how the kids recover from their melting in the sun once you get inside to wait! My daughter (25) loved the chicken…LOL!
My thoughts on the new addition are that it’s beautiful much the way Cars Land is. Sculptural and even more beautiful at night. I love all the visual bits and pieces that help you to feel immersed in the experience. On the down side, it isn’t done yet. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is scheduled to open on January 17, 2020 and that should fill it out a little better. I agree with you on the Millennium Falcon. My daughters loved being the Pilots. I got Gunner position behind them and the motion sickness got me too. I feel like the two Pilots have the best spot and get to interact with the ride the most. The other four in the capsule, not so much.
For me, the value here is in the visual. It is a feast for the eyes!
I loved your post @KimberlyAnnG I’m a big fan of Disneyland, of course of Star Wars too. I’ll be there next April, I can’t wait to ride the Millennium Falcon I want to build my Droid too! Thanks for sharing!!
You have a great colection there @KimberlyAnnG thanks for the advice! Did you buy the Droid’s backpack too? The 137 dls is just the droid or with some personality chip?
@DanniS no worries, I have quite a bit to share on this subject. Disneyland is something I can highly recommend but it is a crazy, expensive place. I’ll try to cover it all for ya!
Awesome post @KimberlyAnnG ! I keep counting the days to visit Disneyland for the first time and especially this part! From your experience I see it’s as good as I was expecting it to be, thanks for sharing!
The massive California Disney is even bigger!! Looks very fun:smiley:!! Even in the frame of a photo, it can be understood immediately. I will definitely visit:flight_departure:. By the way, when you come to Japan, you may meet a model of Darth Vader:wink:
