I feel incredibly fortunate to have visited the ancient archaeological site of Wari-Bateshwar, located in Narsingdi, Bangladesh. Estimated to be around 2,500 years old, this remarkable site offers a fascinating glimpse into one of the earliest known urban settlements in the region.
I made the journey by motorbike, which made the trip even more enjoyable. Walking through the ruins, I was amazed to learn how advanced this ancient civilization was. Archaeological discoveries suggest that the city had well-planned roads, an organized drainage system, brick-built houses, household artifacts, defensive fortifications, and evidence of thriving trade and urban planning. It is incredible to think that people living here more than two millennia ago developed many features we associate with modern cities today.
Visiting Wari-Bateshwar is a reminder that Bangladesh has a rich and ancient history that deserves greater recognition. If you enjoy history, archaeology, or cultural heritage, I highly recommend adding this place to your travel list. It is an inspiring destination that brings the past to life.
