Discover Aracaju, the capital of Sergipe state on Brazil's northeast coast.

Passarela do caranguejo

@VasT

The Brazilian northeast is much known for its largest coast and its culture. A long the year, there are two periods where almost all of the northeasterners show their greatest pride in talking about their culture. The first one is carnival and the other one is São João.

São João is a popular feast which happens in June where to taste a culinary based on corn and feel the great pleasure of the forró dance. So last year I had the opportunity to visit Aracaju for this popular feast.

Well, Aracaju is the capital of Sergipe state on Brazil’s northeast coast. It is known for its beaches, including the central Praia de Atalaia.

The beach front promenade, Passarela do Caranguejo, is lined with seafood restaurants and marked by a huge sculpture of a crab.

Thank you for tagging me in your post @Chadrepsgi ,

What type of corn food do they usually have at this festival? In my country, we don’t use that much cornflour. I like tortillas made from corn, not so Greek, but enjoy having them for lunch.

It’s a great pleasure to tell much about the June Festivals (festas juninas or São João), one of the most important representation of Brazil’s northeast popular culture after carnival.

These festivities were held in honor of three Catholic saints: Saint John, Saint Peter, and Saint Anthony.

Full of color, joy, and attractions for all tastes and profiles; cities decorated with striking colors, folkloric rhythms, typical food stalls, and dance competitions.

Pamonha, curau, boiled corn, hominy, couscous, popcorn, corn cake are a few examples of traditional foods based on cornflour.
