Dilli Haat - INA Delhi - Food & Craft Trail Of India!

Few days back, I visited Dilli Haat, INA which is around 50 mins drive from Gurugram City and 33 mins from MG Road Metro Station, Gurugram City. I entered from Gate 2 and took the Entry Ticket (paid). It has a mix stalls of food and craft. You can shop, eat and enjoy the Indian culture.

DILLI HAAT is not just a market place; it has been visualized as a showpiece of traditional Indian culture- a forum where rural life and folk art are brought closer to an urban clientele. Since its inauguration in the month of March 1994, Dilli Haat has been home to thousands of handicraft and handloom artisans.

The food and craft stalls are spread across 6 acres of land. Let us walk and take a glimpse through my eyes.

Then, I stopped at jewelry stall, filled with ethnic and fashion jewelry. I could not register designs, they were too many. And, it can go with all dress types.

I walked few steps, got stopped by the puppeteer and shop owner. He sells Rajasthani craft and puppets. I had a conversation with him, how he makes. He introduced himself as “Mr Vicky Bhatt” who is an artist at heart, does musical and puppet show. He has also received award for the best puppet show. I was thrilled to meet such great artist. I purchased a decorative Rajasthani item from him.

I walked and walked, till a noticed a separate area, for north eastern region art and craft. Full of handicrafts from Assam. I purchased a small hanging showpiece from them, which I am loving it.

There were apparel stalls from different Indian states.

Also, near the ticket booth, there is “Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Memorial”, which has all the teachings and work done by the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. There is no entry fee attached. It is a huge hall and full of informative stuff. Must Visit place for kids and youngsters.

Good to know information

  • Ticket fee attached for Dilli Haat Entry.
  • Easily approachable through private vehicle or metro.
  • The prices are mixed, some stalls have okish pricing, some have high.
  • Wheelchair available near the Ticket booth, ramps are available for easy wheelchair movement.
  • Often crowded during the evening hours.
  • Washrooms are kept clean.

I got to know from one of the stall owner that the business has taken a hit post COVID. COVID post effects, has given them hard times and making it difficult to rise their business.

I would urge everyone, who visit such beautiful place across world, to support our artists by purchasing their art and hard work. This would surely uplift them and get motivated. And, in turn enabling them to come up with new artistic ideas.

That’s why I have asked @TravellerG as a Co-host to show us some parts of India in this meet-up tomorrow. You are invited too. Let’s explore India together.
