Difference between yellow and grey color of a built up area

While in default view in maps, I noticed for a same building it displayed two colors: yellow and light grey. Just got curious on what logic google put here to interpret different colors of a same building

Any idea? Thanks much in advance.

Yellow is meant to indicate the more busy areas most downtown in cities.

Actually Sir… This is the same building, only one part is yellow and another grey. While on the definition I could understand but this got me hooked.

Okay. Now I understand better what you mean.

The yellow parts of a building indicated there is a place of interest (typically a business) located there. While the grey areas is typically private accomodation.

Within one building there can be several house numbers.

Hi Sir

Attaching both default and satellite view of the same building.

Hi Sir,

Understood your point. However, here I am unable to understand how Google determined this difference as the structure is one single entity.

Also, I had personally visited this place i can say there is no difference.

Hello again.

I surely believe that the color is determined by the fact that there are businesses located inside yellow parts of the building.

So is your question how Google Maps decided where to draw the line between the grey and the yellow parts of the building?

Many local authorities (municipalities) partner with Google Maps to share their more precise building data. I don’t know if this is the case here. When this is not available Google will automatically generated building outlines and generate house numbers. This is likely the base used to draw such lines.
