Dhruv Pol, Second Entry Gate, Jalore Fort. Jalore, Rajasthan, India.
The Jalore Fort was a wealthy and strategic fort, so it was quite important and famous in the Marwar region. There is a lack of historical records about the actual history. According to some historians, it was ruled by the Pratihara dynasty in the eighth century, followed by the Paramara dynasty of Gujarat. In the tenth century, this fort was under the Paramara rulers of Malwa and at the end of the twelfth century the Rajput Chauhan rulers were in control. Cannons are still present on the turret built on Suraj Pol and can be accessed through a ramp, the lower views from the mountain are extremely panoramic.
I continued moving up, panoramic hills and the plain views of surroundings were quite attractive, on the way to my destination which was still far. Impressive security arrangements were remarkable and I was delighted to see the second gigantic entrance gate which is Dhruv Pol.
Dhruv Pol is one of the major security gate. The living arrangements of security personnel are also seen at this entrance. This grand gate is built between strong walls and its roof is based on huge arches. A sharp bend is provided to restrict the entry into the fort. On the roof of this gate arch shaped heavy parapet have been built for the security personnel. The walls are quite high and wide. This entrance gate was closed with wooden doors that are studded with pointed iron pegs. Nature made this fort largely impermeable through rocks and skilled architects tried to make it more impregnable, with the provision of security wall bastions and strong entrances.
The ascent of Jalore Durg is challenging, but the enjoyment of the scenic scenery is beyond these challenges. It’s a major tourists attraction located in the South West of Rajasthan on a high hill. There is no entry fee and best period to visit this fort is from October to March.
