However, on April 25, 2015, a devastating earthquake struck Nepal, causing widespread destruction, including the collapse of Dharahara Tower.
In the aftermath of the earthquake, efforts were initiated to rebuild Dharahara Tower. The newly constructed tower, which was completed in 2020, seeks to recapture the spirit of the original while incorporating modern earthquake-resistant construction techniques. The new Dharahara Tower, standing at 22 stories tall, will offer visitors a breathtaking panoramic view of Kathmandu once again.
This reconstruction project symbolizes Nepal’s determination to preserve its cultural heritage and restore the spirit of a beloved monument. Dharahara Tower, both the old and the new, remains a witness to Nepal’s enduring history and its commitment to preserving its architectural and cultural treasures for future generations.
