Dhakeshwari Temple is national Hindu temple of Bangladesh and a historical temple. The word Dhakeshwari literally means ‘Ishwari of Dhaka’. Many people think that Dhaka is named after Dhakeshwari temple. This temple was built in the 12th century by King Ballal Sen of the Sena dynasty. Successive renovations have led to many changes in the original design of the temple. During the 1971 liberation war, the Dhakeshwari temple was badly damaged by the Pakistani forces. After the independence of Bangladesh, the temple was rebuilt according to the original design.
I have had the opportunity to visit this temple several times due to my residence in Dhaka. I last visited this temple with my family on 18th August. That’s why I decided to share with you about this temple.

The mandapam of the temple has a standing altar with an idol of Goddess Durga made of metal.
