The studio is a nonprofit project run by Ms. Mandakini Mathur that aims to preserve native art and craft. She is a flim maker, teacher, writer and poet too. She has guided many artists here and most fanous were the Dokhra or Dokra craftsmen from tribes in Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra, India. It is a special non–ferrous metal casting ancient technique used to metal in that region. Also, few artists from central India joined them and then all started. When she was explaining us everything about the place, it was purely an expression of women’s empowerment, as she was so excited about it.
The gallery also offers accommodations for the artists and art lovers from around the world to stay, enjoy, learn, and create their own artwork here. They have a few colonial style cottages and/or tents for that.
For us, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience…
I hope you liked the post.
Cheers!
