Latkan is a kind of native and unconventional fruit, which is very rich in nutrients and medicinal properties. The English name is Burmese grape and the scientific name is Baccaurea sapida. It is a medium-sized evergreen tree. Locally it is called ꠛꠥꠛꠤ/ বুবি(Bubi) (in Sylheti) and in Bangla it is called লটকন/Lotkon. Latkan has several names; Such as- Harfata, Dubi, Bubi, Kanaiju, Lotka, Lotkau, Kichyan, etc. The fruit is the round capsule, its fruit turns yellow when ripe. Peel a squash, grate it and squeeze the juice.
Latkan is a very nutritious and delicious fruit. For every 100 grams of mature Latkan, there are 1.42 grams of meat, 0.45 grams of fat, 0.9 grams of total minerals, 0.3 grams of iron, and 91 Kilo Calories of food energy. As a result, people of all ages can eat safely as they have very little fat and no sugar.
An adult tree yields 100–150 kg of fruit. Latkan is sold at Tk 70-80 per kg in different markets of the country. However, its price in the capital is more than 100tk per kg. Latkan flowers in March and takes four to five months for the fruit to mature. Latkan is available in June, July, and August.

Thanks for sharing with us this nice and informative post! I didn’t know the latkan, does it taste like anything common? Do you eat only the internal part or the whole fruit? Recently I have discovered 2 new fruits from 2 different countries, I hope you will find them interesting too:
it tastes like litchi. I hope you also like it after trying with this fruit. I eat only the external part of this fruit. External part is soft. And sometimes it tastes sweet and sour. Its internal part is actually a seed.
