In September of 2018 I took a tour by the West Coast and I met an incredible place what makes you feel like if you’re in a fairytale. [Solvang](http:// Google Maps) is like a little danish village with all those shops and restaurants.
This place is around 200 km from Los Angeles coast, was founded in 1911 for Dannish- American who wanted to promote and preserve Danish culture. They constructed a school, a church, restaurants an houses with this beautiful Danish style, even you can find here traditional windmills. After War World II the promoters of the idea of a “Danish Village” were finally able to move ahead with plans to redesign and to mandate the new construction.
There are many traditional danish bakeries where you can taste many pastries.
Is incredible to find a place like this in the middle of California. Named by Sunset magazine as one of the “10 Most Beautiful Small Towns in the Western United States” is a must if you are doing a road trip to the west coast.
Do you know that Solvang get over one million of visitors per year? (well, sadly not in 2020) I spent there only 5 or 6 hours and I loved it, I want to come back as soon I can.
(I wanted to rewrite this post as a part of the #StateChallenge California to tell something more about this place)
Greetings.
I visited Solvang back in 2004. As a native Dane, I heard about a little Danish town in California and I just had to see it for myself. It has a very unique sense of Denmark from the 50’s and 60’s, and I was very impressed by the bakery there.
Have you ever visited Denmark, or was Solvang your first taste of it?
Thanks very much, I will! I’m from Argentina, I went to California for vacation a couple times. You know when you find that place what makes you feel like in home, this is Los Angeles for me.
I think is a lot of things put together. I like really much all about filming, I went to all the Studio Movies, I saw filming on street more than once (much more), tapping of sit-com, I like Disneyland, the beautiful Griffith Park, and more. Is not a perfect place (there’s a ugly places please don’t go, if you need advice ask me) but feels totally right for me.
I remember being very fascinated by the whole Hollywood vibe when I visited @SilvyC . Griffith Park is one of the few places I never got to see, but I always wanted to go to the observatory.
I do plan to go back someday an refresh my memories, so thank you. I might just take you up on it.
