Sakaba (Japanese taverns) are somewhat similar to bars in other countries.
However, in Japan, there are many places where you can enjoy beer, sake, and shochu along with delicious food. Many sakaba have counter seating, allowing customers to chat with the owner or other guests, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I absolutely love these kinds of spaces!
During my recent trip to Aomori, I discovered a wonderful sakaba.
Upon entering, I was greeted by a nostalgic yet well-maintained counter, and I had the chance to savor delicious local vegetables and fresh seafood from Aomori.
The **atmosphere of the place, the warm hospitality of the Mama-san (owner), and every single dish were absolutely fantastic!
If you love alcohol and food that pairs well with it, this is the perfect spot.
While every dish in the course menu was incredible, the Kasujiru (sake lees miso soup) served at the end was unbelievably delicious—so much so that I felt like I could have had five bowls!
I don’t remember the exact prices, but they offered **three different course menus: 3,900 yen, 4,900 yen, and 5,900 yen.
On top of that, the cost of drinks is added separately. Since I had another place I wanted to visit that night, I chose the 3,900 yen course.
The combination of exquisite dishes and perfectly paired sake is truly a blissful experience for sake lovers!
The sakaba has about five counter seats and also offers tatami seating.
Next time, I’d love to come back and try another course!
