Among the many attractions in Rajgir, Bihar, the Cyclopean Wall stands out as one of the most unique and rare monuments in the world. Built between 600–400 BC, this massive stone fortification was started by King Bimbisara of Magadha and later completed by his son Ajatashatru.

The wall was once wide and high, designed to protect the city of Rajgir. It was constructed using both dressed and undressed stones, fitted so skillfully that hardly any space was left between them. Mortar was used sparingly, making it a fine example of ancient engineering.

Although parts of the wall have disappeared with time, significant remains are still visible. Today, the Archaeological Survey of India protects and maintains it, and efforts are underway to include it in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Tourist Tips: Best visited during the cooler months (October–March). Wear comfortable shoes as exploring involves walking over uneven terrain. Photography enthusiasts will love capturing the massive stonework against Rajgir’s hills. Combine your visit with Griddhakuta Hill and Venuvana for a complete historical tour.
