Good news Guys,
I have just tried using the custom name feature on Google maps and it works. There was a glitch of losing points from using this feature @MortenCopenhagen and some other local guides detetcted. On Wednesday we had confirmation that it is fixed. I decided to try it out today and Voila !!! It is fixed. I believe it is safe now. Lots of advantages to using this feature really. I believe it will increase our privacy on Google maps.
Especially for those who are not too comfortable with public appearance. This is the feature for you to use. @Rahul001 wrote in details in his post Custom Name On Google Maps. Just to let you all knw that it is working well now. Note that it will only take a few moments to synchronize the new name and photo. after that, away you go, I only did mine yesterday. Points New Name New Custom Photo etc. working well today. Check it out if you like.

Here is mine !!! I will like to say that I have dedicated my Google Maps profile name to the many Tracians who have titled and know me as Captain. That is it now, it is official. wonder do you all know about this feature. What do you think of it? would you like to try it out? Please let us know in the comment section below.

Thank you, Captain @SholaIB. for sharing this good news. I changed my display name back in October, and it’s great to see the bug is now fixed. Your profile name, ‘Captain,’ looks great.
Still, I’m afraid to change it again because I’m not sure about the time of syncing. Let’s wait some more days to have a test result from more users with fewer contributions (and fewer syncing time as well).
Moreover, I see that we’re still not able to change only the photo/name, and should change them simultaneously.
Thank you for sharing this information. I had previously overlooked changing my username, but now everything is working fine. However, I don’t understand why this minor change requires adding a profile picture - fortunately, there is an easy workaround.
