When editing a longer text on Android using Chrome to access Localguidesconnect.com the text editor is super annoying when you get past the first lines that are visible in the editor window. Selecting some text forces the cursor to the top of the text so we can if we were lucky to select the intended words. Also when just moving the cursor to a new position the cursor jumps up. And you need to scroll all the way down again to see where the cursor actually ended up.
This is very annoying and should be fixed. Or am I the only one experiencing this problem?
Perhaps hard to believe @MortenCopenhagen , but it has actually been worse in the past. Several issues have been fixed, but this one is indeed very persistent - and indeed very annoying.
@MortenCopenhagen continuation from the other post about the multiple word highlight. Actually, the cursor is not jumping, the cursor stays at the right place, only the focus of the text box jumps up to the top of the box, but the cursor remains at the correct place at the bottom. I see the same experience on my Android phones.
To try to reduce some stress on this, you can try to see if this helps, I use this if I am on Android. This does not solve the problem, but it’s meant to reduce some stress until a more permanent solution be found.
Enable precise cursor control on G-board.
On Gboard’s upper left corner on the control bar, tap the “>”, and if you don’t see an “I”, then tap the 3-dot menu icon, and find the “Text Editing” icon, and drag into the control bar. You can then access the precise cursor control on G-board, via tapping the “>” in the control bar and select “I” for the precise cursor control.
With using the precise cursor control to move cursor and to select text.
Ie when the focus jumps to the top of the text box, just go to precise cursor control and tap the right/left arrow, which will return you to the correct cursor location. This does not solve the problem though, but hopefully it reduces some stress until a more permanent solution is found.
You can try to see if selecting text using this way allows you to bold multiple words together?
I stand corrected on the focus and not the cursor jumps up.
Earlier we cured another issue but moving from Gboard to Swift keyboard, so I’m hesitant to make the shift back to Gboard. Maybe @JanVanHaver would care to share his experience with this Gboard workaround.
@MortenCopenhagen you can also try to enable cursor control in Swiftkey, refer to the link below… same thing, when the focus jumps, just tap the arrow left/right to return focus to the cursor. See if this helps the situation, and also the multiple word selection.
Your helpfulness is simply outstanding. I just turned on the arrows in Swift Keyboard and they are amazing. Now I can easily move the cursor around without the focus jumping up. You are a true hero. You saved my day and many more to come. Thanks a million.
Even though I have marked @StephenAbraham very nice workaround as the solution, I would like to point out that it is not a fix of this problem. Please keep the heat up on the lithium folks on this issue.
I think your reply no longer is the best solution. The workaround having arrow keys on the phone has been super useful, but as @KishorMali just posted here the issue has been fixed on the backend. And the arrow-keys are no longer needed. I came to like having the arrow keys though so I plan to keep them.
The issue with selecting multiple words on the second “page” is also fixed.
And I suspect that the difficulties associated with deleting an @ can also be checked off the list of issues.
