Culture Explore : the beauty of Chinese characters

Hello World,

Before sharing my favorite attractions, briefly introduce myself first.

✓****Who: Yu Chen, Jane

✓Where**:** Taipei, Taiwan

✓****What makes me want to be a Local Guide:

I especially like to explore cultural sites, and by knowing historical stories or local special food, I can understand the local people’s attitudes to their lives and their culture. So this time, I want to share with you about Chinese characters and reading culture through my attraction guides.

❝ Let’s explore this book market in Guling Street, Taipei.

❝ This second-hand bookshop is end of its business… (@松林書局)

❝ However, we can still enjoy old books in the book market.

✓****More Cultural Things are Worth Exploring:

Even though we often use the Internet to communicate with people and get information, I still love the way we used to get knowledge, reading. So I especially like to visit bookstores, second-hand book stands, and book fairs.

❝ The previous writing or text was used to record knowledge, and the text in modern society became one of the tools for creativity.

In addition, I also like to taste traditional food. I think the traditional way of cooking is relatively simple, the raw materials are also authentic, hence we can enjoy the taste of real food.

❝ One of my favorite food - Egg pancakes (“雞蛋糕" / Jī dàn gāo in Chinese)

❝ Egg pancakes can be shaped into different shapes, like the city gate.

✓****What a Culture Difference!

My boyfriend grew up in China, and I grew up in Taiwan. Although we both study Chinese literature, often in communication, my boyfriend uses Chinese idioms to express his emotions. However, I can’t understand what he is saying. At that moment, I still have to use Google search to interpret the meaning of idioms. Interestingly, I recently felt that my knowledge of idioms has gradually improved.
