5 stars - worth a visit.
4 stars - good place to eat. (if you walk by or live nearby)
3 stars - acceptable but not recommended. (average taste)
2 stars - bad taste, but OK service
1 star - bad taste and service
Most restaurants I have visited and rated so far are in 4 stars.
I haven’t encountered any 1-star restaurants in Finland (where I currently live) yet under this criteria.
Thank you for this interpretation of the ratings, @rumia!
For 3 stars, I’d prefer to say “neither good nor bad” since “not recommended” sounds a bit like “don’t go there”, which really applies to 1 or 2 stars.
P.S. looking at your photo contributions, I find they are really original and a great idea. Just being surprised, the AI filter did accept them all. Indeed 240 out of 204 went public (while 11 reviews are hidden )
Yes many of these star ratings may be done by spammers or marketing agencies to increase the ratings of their POI. While it can be reported by business owner or Local Guides we still see many such trends happening.
I believe it’s not true. Low rated POIs do exist and should exist as per Maps policies. We can only mark them permanently closed if they’re no longer in operation.
