1. What was your most memorable journey or discovery while using Google Maps?
A few years ago, I visited Hazarduari in Murshidabad. At that time, I didn’t know about Google Maps, so I couldn’t explore many places. Later, when I learned how to use the map, I visited Hazarduari again, and this time I felt like I explored almost 90% of the place.
2. What kind of contributions do you enjoy making the most? (e.g., photos, reviews, or Q&A)
I mainly enjoy adding missing roads, but I also contribute through Q&A, photos, and reviews.
3. If you could add one new feature to Google Maps, what would it be and why?
If a traveler visits a new place and encounters difficulties related to maps or roads, it would be great if they could easily connect with local guides. Through this feature, travelers could receive local insights and assistance, such as information about safe routes, current traffic conditions, or directions to lesser-known spots. As a result, exploring new places would become safer, more convenient, and far more memorable.
4. Tell us about a time when a contribution you made helped someone else in a significant way.
I haven’t directly helped anyone through my posts, but I know that many unknown people have benefited from them. I can see this from the number of views my contributions receive.
5. What’s the most surprising or interesting thing you’ve learned while contributing to Google Maps?
The most interesting thing I learned was when I searched for a clinic. The details showed when it was open and closed, along with full timing information. I didn’t know such a feature existed before. Later, I noticed that many other institutions and shops also provide similar timing information, which is very useful.
6. Which type of business or place do you most enjoy reviewing?
I enjoy adding small businesses in villages and towns to Google Maps to help them. I also like sharing information about new places and various local details.
7. What advice would you give to a new contributor just starting their journey?
My advice to new contributors is: pay attention to details and always be honest. Don’t just provide the name or address of a place; include small details like accessibility, parking options, or payment methods. Remember, even a small piece of information from you can make a big difference for someone else.
8. Is there a specific place you’ve contributed to that has special meaning for you?
Yes, there is a special place for me. I was in 11th grade and used to travel daily by bus through Sialduba nadi ghat . On the route, there was a small corner with very few houses. I added this corner to Google Maps as a new location and uploaded a 360-degree photo. Now it feels great to see that this contribution has received almost 25,000 views. There is also a small hotel there now.
9. What motivates you to keep contributing to Google Maps?
I like providing accurate information on Google Maps so that others can find different places easily and discover new roads and locations. People can also see my name through the photos and reviews I contribute, which gives me a sense of recognition.
10. How has being a Local Guide changed the way you explore your city or travel?
Earlier, when I traveled, I focused mostly on hotels or major places and didn’t pay much attention to small locations. Now, I try to learn about every place as much as possible and share that information with others.
