In 2011, I was visited by an old friend who had been stationed near me in Zaire in the late 80s and we decided to go on a trip to Bandunduville, the capital of the province of Bandundu situated where the Kwilu, Kwango and Kasai rivers come together before flowing into the mighty Congo river. We spent several days exploring these impressive waterways and met lots of friendly people along the way.
Dugout canoes are the most common means of transportation seen here full of agricultural produce being taken to market.
Once in Bandunduville we rented a canoe and trusty skipper to take us on our exploratory journey up and down the three big rivers.
Below is a collection of images and video taken along the way:We ran into three fishermen who showed us how they used their net to fish. See video below
On our last day we were treated to a beautiful sunset over the Kwilu river
