Confessions of a Level 8 Time Traveler: Why I’m Trading Maps for Stories (Again!)
I’m back. Did you miss me? Because God, I realized I missed everything
For years, I’ve been a ghost on Connect. If you asked where I was, I could give you a hundred “adulting” excuses, the job, moving cities, life just… happening.
But while I was MIA here, my Google Maps account was having the time of its life!
I was out there trekking, cafe-hopping, and traveling, quietly documenting it all.
I looked at my stats today and nearly dropped my phone: 8.8 million photo views!
To the millions of you who looked at my photos to decide if that pasta was worth the calories, you’re welcome. ![]()
The “Aha!” Moment (and a little bit of shade)
Why come back now? Two reasons:
-
The Inspiration: Seeing all of you, managing jobs, families, and chaos, yet still finding the passion to contribute to this community. Your energy is infectious, and it pulled me right back in.
-
The “Blurry Menu” Syndrome: We’ve all seen them. The blurry, dark, unreadable menu photos on Maps. Every time I see one, a little part of my Level 8 soul cries, “I could have done this so much better!”
The “New” Shweta 2.0
The girl who left years ago was mostly about the points and the badges. But the Shweta who is standing here today? She’s found her voice.
Over these “quiet” years, I fell in love with writing.
My reviews aren’t just “Good food, 5 stars” anymore. I write them with my whole heart. I realized that on Connect, I can turn those reviews into stories.
I don’t just want to tell you where to eat; I want to tell you how that one spicy chai healed a bad day or how a dance teacher named Vandana is changing lives for women over 40.
The FOMO is Real
I missed the global meetups, the badges, and honestly, the feeling of being a “local legend.”
It feels good to be a tiny but important part of this massive Google universe.
So, here’s to no more digital dust. I’m trading in my silence for stories. I’ve missed you all, and I can’t wait to show you the world through my lens again, quirks, emotions, and all.
Million thanks for keeping the entire group lively and lovely! @TusharSuradkar @TravellerG @Sumedh_C @RosyKohli @Gurukrishnapriya
