#CommunityPhotoChallenge : ZELENCI NATURE PRESERVE/Slovenia

Despite this strange and difficult year I was so blessed to manage to travel to some of the destinations I’ve always had on my list and Slovenia was one of them.

This small country of the size of the Moravia (one of three parts of the Czech Republic) offers so many wonders and surprises and for me it’s still kind of hard to understand how come it still remains unknown to so many people.

Why from all the pictures taken this year did I choose right this one?

Because for me Zelenci Nature Reserve represents Slovenia itself. Because of its teeny-tiny size you might think it’s not even worth it to explore such a small spot of the Earth, but once you see it, you totally change your mind. Unique Combination of the emerald green lake and the breathtaking surrounding Julian Alps is simply splendid!

What does the picture mean to me?

This photo is mainly about the beauty of the nature, about the importance of preserving spots like this and living in balance with the nature. It reminds me of the beautiful sunny days and rainy nights in our camp site, tons of laughter, great time with my boyfriend and our friends and last but not least the first trip with dachshund Dan, our animal partner in crime.

How do I think this photo would help the business listing?

Google Maps are here to help us to make better decisions, to make our life easier, to save the money, to enjoy the meals we like, to avoid traffic jams and more and more. I think it’s also very important to promote the nature itself. Covid-19 lockdowns banned us to visit our favorite restaurants, have a beer with our friends in the pub, spend evenings in the cinema, enjoy amazing concerts of our favourite artists but the nature remained opened to us and many of us opened themselves to the nature too. Especially in the Czech Republic people started going out more often, more people started spending more of their free time outside on the fresh air. And in my opinion pictures like this one do and will remind us that there are still things for free and that they might be even better and more valuable than the ones we pay for.

We should never forget that the nature is priceless.

This is great @lajnhart ! Love the post and love the layout! Easy for me to read and digest  ! And a great choice of photo for your submission. I saw your other photos too of this location and the lake water is stunningly clear!! For this photo, you’ve taken the shot from quite a high view point. The Satellite view isn’t very clear on Maps but I’m guessing that the ground is higher up where you stood or were you using a selfie stick?

And I totally agree with your answers! In some ways, this challenging times have allowed us to do a ‘reset’ and figure out what’s important in life. Folks are now treasuring the time spent outdoors, they don’t feel the need to exercise in a gym but exercise outside (and save money on gym membership!) and so many other silver linings!

Thanks so much for taking part in this photo challenge!

Thanks a lot for such a super kind feedback, @AdrianLunsong! ?

Is it the same down there in Borneo? Do people spend more time outdoors? Anyway they must have spent a lot of their free time outdoors also before as Borneo’s nature is simply breathtaking!

FYI, Borneo is on top of my list. Hope I’ll have a chance to go there one day (!ASAP! ?).

Back to Zelenci NP:

This photo is taken from the tiny wooden observation post located by the lake. As these are wetlands with quite tall grass all around, it’s not so easy to see the big trouts clearly in the water, so that’s why they built this observatory there I guess. I’ll add another picture so you all can imagine how the whole site looks like:

Frankly, I am not a big fan of selfie stick and I’ve never had any :)).

@lajnhart Whoop! Whoop! Congrats on making it to the Friday Favourites! :sunglasses:

I have a selfie stick… several actually but I’m not very good at using them. I tend to forget that I have them and I’m also very self conscious when I’m using them. I don’t like to stick out like a tourist and prefer to just blend in. But they do come in handy when you need that extra reach or to get it at an angle!

And yeah, folks here do like the outdoors. Every weekend, folks are usually driving out to nearby places to enjoy nature whether it’s the beach or a waterfall. And they also like to just eat! It’s not uncommon for folks here to drive out to a new place to try out a restaurant/cafe that’s been recommended to them.

Grazie mille per i complimenti, @LuigiZ !

Sissì, hai ragione, il posto è davvero meraviglioso y anche se la foto sembra modificata con uno dei programmi fotografici, non la è, questa è l’imaggine della pura bellezza naturale! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@AdrianLunsong Thanks a bunch! It made me quite happy! :upside_down_face:

You’re right. It really comes handy in some situations but as you’ve already said, I always try to blend in too and be as invisible as possible.

Ahaha, that’s great! It does not matter what reason to go out you have if you just go! And it’s no wonder as the Asian cuisine is sooo damn good!

@lajnhart This is an outstanding photo  I’ve been in Słowenia only driving through it on my way to Croatia, so I didn’t have an opportunity to explore this country. I must put it on my travel list for sure!

@AniaKiser Actually the most people just drive through as you did but it´s definitely worth more than a short stop!

Next time, eh? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
