Color Park: A Vibrant Oasis in the Steel City

Greetings, my fellow Local Guides :wave:t4:

Today, I’d like to share one of the more unique destinations I’ve traveled to this year - The Color Park! :art:

Pittsburgh’s Color Park is a vibrant oasis in the heart of the Steel City. This unique public park is covered in colorful graffiti, making it a popular spot for Instagrammers, street art enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a fun and funky place to hang out.

The park was created in 2016 by a group of local artists who wanted to transform an abandoned parking lot into a work of art. They invited artists from all over the world to contribute to the project, and the result is a kaleidoscope of colors and styles.

Visitors to Color Park can wander through the park and admire the colorful murals, or they can take part in one of the many activities that are offered, such as graffiti workshops, yoga classes, and concerts.

Color Park is more than just a place to admire street art. It’s also a place where people can come together to express their creativity and individuality.

The park is open to everyone, and visitors are encouraged to add their own touch to the graffiti. Whether you’re a professional artist or a complete beginner, Color Park is a place where you can feel free to create and explore. It’s a place where everyone is welcome, and where anything is possible.

So next time you’re in Pittsburgh, be sure to check out Color Park. It’s a fun and unique experience that you won’t want to miss. I hope you enjoy the photos. Please comment on which were your favorites!

Great photography @Mikeinthefalls I like your lead photo the most. We have a similar area here in Oshawa. I was going to post some photos before but there is a lot of drug related inferences, It was initiated to give the graffiti artists somewhere to express and maybe cut down on Graffiti. Now you made me want to take a look at them again.

I noticed that woman again who keeps jumping in your photos.

This is an awesome idea. Like @TerryPG suggested, maybe it’ll cut down on some of the more unsightly “artwork” in the neighborhood if there’s a place to freely tag.

Mario is the man. I’m voting him as the favorite @Mikeinthefalls .

@Mikeinthefalls Color Park looks absolutely amazing! What a vibrant and lively space in the heart of Pittsburgh. Your description really brought it to life. The idea of turning an abandoned parking lot into an art haven is just fantastic  :sunglasses: . I love how it’s not just about admiring the art but also about engaging in various activities like workshops and concerts. It’s like a creative playground for everyone!

Thanks for checking out my post @TerryPG I’m glad I could inspire you to revisit your photos. :+1:t4: There were quite a few NSFW photos that I’ve shared with friends but would not feel comfortable sharing on Connect!

Great to see that you liked my lead photo, one of mine as well. I wish the graffiti in that area were a little more “thematic” but I enjoyed the city skyline as a backdrop so snapped the pic.

I look forward to seeing your share from your photos.

PS - That’s my personal photographer. Take her wherever I travel so she can take photos of me. Sometimes she just jumps in front of the camera

I couldn’t agree more @JustJake and it appears to be working. Pittsburgh has very little random graffiti and with all those bridges, there’s no lack of canvas.

I was surprised to read that they refresh all the surfaces every few years, so there’s always new opportunities to express one’s creativity.

Mario is the 2nd block you see when entering and immediately caught my eye and appreciation! He’s def one of my three favorite.

Yes @Mo_TravelleerX definitely a vibrant space that’s filled with creativity and positive energy!

I found an article just before we visited that mentioned The Color Park, but it didn’t have many photos. So I wasn’t sure what it would look like and what type of area it was in. They’ve actually done a great job revitalizing the area, since the graffiti park moved in! There’s a brewery on the street that you enter from and a trail that starts at the park, as well.

I’m waiting for this “personal photographer” to chime in so I can sit and watch the fireworks.
