Want to know where to source, and in most cases try, the best independently produced coffee in England’s Midlands region?
I highly recommend visiting a roastery, of which there are many.

Hey @davidrobertclarke ! Interesting post on coffee roasters! I assume that you’re a huge coffee fan then? I used to be based in Manchester for a while but have recently moved back to Malaysia! Thought I would reach out and say hi! I would love to introduce you to the Manchester or other UK Local Guides!!
Oh, and as you’re new to Connect, my first quick tip is to use the @ to tag my username so that I will get a notification of your reply. Without that, I wouldn’t know unless I keep checking back on this post! Looking forward to hearing from you!
@davidrobertclarke Oh… and I forgot to ask: how do you rate a coffee roaster? What made you choose these roasters to feature in your post? And if you had to pick one, which is your favourite and why?
Hi @AdrianLunsong , the Australians introduced me to the artisan coffee scene over a decade ago. I returned to Birmingham in 2014. I was happy to see the green shoots of the Independent coffee scene begin to grow. There were few roasters. One of the best back then, Sutton Coldfield’s Under Pressure Espresso, has matured now to roast their own beans. Taking their brew to the next level.
Rating a coffee roaster or any independent coffee shop is easy. They’re 5 stars before you walk in. Rarely does the experience get worse from then on, as you order, socialise and appreciate your surroundings… and the coffee of course.
The coffee roasters featured in my post were all found using Google Maps, limiting the search radius to 100 miles from home. It was a matter of me, during times of good weather, to try and cycle to each. It was a great adventure. I became fit as a fiddle as a consequence.
I love Birmingham’s Quarter Horse Coffee. Everything about their business is quality. They’re well established, located on Bristol street in the Southside area of Birmingham. They opened their roastery and cafe in Februrary 2015. They don’t just roast awesome coffee, their cafe crafts some of the best Brunch in the city.
