Cloud Gate: A Non-Edible Bean in the Heart of Chicago

The Cloud Gate is probably the most visited and famous place in Chicago. This is an iconic spot and is located in Millennium Park.

Chicagoans say you will always find a crowd here and I found it to be true for I visited there in the cold of December and there were many people lingering around who were mostly tourists.

This place has a formal name Cloud Gate but is popularly known as the Steel Bean and is designed by Indian-Canadian Designer Anish Kapoor. The steel structure is amazing and a great photoshoot place with family, friends, or even alone. Constructed between 2004 and 2006, the sculpture is nicknamed The Bean because of its semi-circular shape.

A stainless steel piece of art, it is just a mirroring bean, but I loved it and everything surrounding it, which it beautifully reflects, most notably the skyscrapers of Chicago, besides of course my outstanding personality

I had fun looking at myself in the structure and felt it at all angles. In spite of it being a cold day, the structure felt mild on touching. I had a lot of photos taken by myself and by others since I had only a digital camera with no selfie option. I enjoyed looking around and found that it’s somehow even more reflective than I imagined.

I think I can not tell how artistic it is but it always looks so perfect and in harmony with the environment. It was a worthwhile visiting the only nonedible bean in my life and will remain etched in memory.

Fun Facts learned from fellow tourists:

Made up of 168 stainless steel plates welded together.
Highly polished exterior with no visible seams.
Measures 33 feet x 66 feet x 42 feet or 10 meter x 20 meter x 13 meter.
Weight 100 tons.

Have you ever got an opportunity to view the surroundings reflected in a polished or reflecting structure, especially outdoors? I’d be interested in knowing your experiences.

Until then… Happy Guiding

Good question @AbhijeetHodbe

I am delighted you asked it - Chicagoers say in Summer it feels cool - and I don’t know, how :interrobang:

There are no known coolers or heaters inside the bean, so it is a wonder
