Closing signs for housing complexes

We understand the significance of closing signs for businesses and shops.
For some residential buildings, the name of the building does not appear on the map and when I try to add it, I find that it already exists but it is closed and the name of the building is hidden because of the closure.
What does it mean when a building is closed? Does it mean that there are no rooms available for real estate transactions?
People use maps for more than just buying and selling.
A building can also be a landmark when walking around a town. There is no rationale for hiding the name of a building even if it is not the subject of a property transaction.

Generally if it’s closed it should not have been on Maps @ttomu2

Hi @ttomu2

@PaulPavlinovich is correct. Most of the time a residential building has no reasons to be in Maps, and real estate properties Must Not Be In Maps.

However this is a question, not an idea about an improvement of the program.

Hi @ttomu2 ,

Thanks for reaching out to us! Indeed @ErmesT and @PaulPavlinovich are right: private residences should not be featured on Maps. In the following link you can find more information about Places you can’t add to Google Maps.

I will now move your post to our How-tos section, which is the most appropriate board of the forum.

Hi, @Giu_DiB

Just want to inform you that there is “Housing Complex” category on Maps, and it, in my opinion, is different from “private residences” (which is not allowed on Maps).

Maybe, in my opinion, “Housing Complex” category is quite similar to “Apartment Complex.” What makes it different is, in my opinion (again) is apartment complex located in a high rise building, but housing complex is like a cluster of gated community/residences, which is in some gated residences I know here in Indonesia does have operational hours (the time the gate is open/closed).

Maybe this is what @ttomu2 means.

Thank you.

I have no wish to dare to display the name of a housing complex marked closed for any reason.
However, if a large landmark building has no name, it can be frustrating to remember the name of the landmark.
Even if the name is not displayed on the map by default, it is enough to be able to point to the building you are interested in and see its name. In fact, many buildings are registered as such on Google Maps.
This is especially true in Japan, where not all streets are named and land numbers are assigned irregularly. This makes it difficult to get to your destination by address alone.
It is important to look out for landmarks at key points along the route. In residential areas with few shops, there are few landmarks.
Most of the housing complexes have names on them, which are useful as landmarks.
If a building is marked as closed, the name of the building will not be shown when pointing on Google Maps. That was the reason for this post.
If your GPS is perfect and you are looking at the screen of your smartphone, you may not need landmarks.
Thanks all comments.
