Ghanta Ghar is one of the most iconic landmarks of Ludhiana city. It stands tall amongst the hap-hazard development of the industrial city. Previously it was the pride and the centre piece of the historic area of Chaura Bazaar, which was the hub of economic and political activity in the city. Located at the entrance of the commercial centre, the Clock Tower was and still remains a landmark in the city’s landscape.
One of the places to visit in Ludhiana is the Victoria Memorial Clock Tower. Popularly known as “Ghanta Ghar”, the place is a prime landmark of the city. Inaugurated in 1906 by Sir Charles Montgomery, the tower has the history of being erected to mark the occasion of silver jubilee of queen Victoria’s reign.
The clock used to be manually wounded when first erected but 12 years ago was replaced by a digital version. Located in the heart of the city, the tower is the icon of Ludhiana which can be viewed from other parts of the city.
