I don’t know what to title this post, but I hope my story inspires someone…
So, lately, I’ve been doing a lot of edits and reviews on Google Maps to create and increase visibility for libraries in Kwara State.
My edits include; uploading photos that best described them, updating their descriptions, reviewing, and checking facts about them (a course I learned last year courtesy of African Library & Information Associations and Institutions - AfLIA; which aimed at promoting Media and Information Literacy in Africa by enrolling in commemoration of the 2020 Global Media and Literacy week ).
It’s barely a month to my edits and I was surprised to see “8,700 Views” on my google map timeline with the most viewed being Mustapha Akanbi Library Mustapha Akanbi Library - MAL and Resource Centre #AgbaDam followed by the Kwara State library Kwara State Library Complex, Ilorin.
How amazing it is

Presently, I’m working on creating an enumerative list for Libraries in Kwara State on Google Maps to facilitate easy access to Libraries’ services in #kwarastate.

@Bukky_James let me say I am so impressed with your first post on Connect. You have already distinguished yourself my starting a project of mapping libraries. Your list is also inspiring. I think I would help by adding libraries too.
This is just the beginning. You should keep going and help students and citizens find useful information about libraries. This is where Google Maps become very relevant.

Great to see such entusiasm and dedication @Bukky_James . Something you could still do to make it even better, is making actual edits to the data of the libraries as they are shown on the map. This can be to make corrections to e.g. the way the names are written or the categories of the places you listed.
Some specific examples might make it more clear what I mean:
- federal polytechnic offa library → Federal Polytechnic Offa Library
- KWASU Library annex → Kwasu Library Annex
- Kwasu Library Annex: change category to ‘Library’
- Landmark University Library: change category to ‘University library’
Making such edits is definitely also something local guides can do. By the way: the examples I gave are just examples, you should decide - based on your local expertise - what exactly needs to be changed. One more thing which is quite important here on the forum: if you want to make sure that another Connect user sees a reply you give, make sure to ‘tag’ them by typing the ‘@’ symbol and then select that user from the list (or start typing the name if there is no list).
