Sharing here some photos which I made while exploring the #Christmas culture in #Germany. I visited two #ChristmasMarkets; one very popular in #Cologne Dome and the other in a small town of #Bergneustadt.
Both markets were very different, Bergneustadt was smaller but more authentic and less commercial. It was more about the German countryside experience. Whereas, Cologne had a great variety to experience as they had stalls from neighbouring countries Austria, Finland etc. It was super crowded too!
If you plan a visit, I would suggest you try the ones closest to where you would be staying first. The one at Nuremberg is considered the best for bringing diverse cultures under one roof! If you’re a quiet person than you would love the ones in the villages than the ones in big cities!
Things to enjoy in both kind of markets:
Local food and wine - I forgot what all I tried but everything was yummy and you won’t find such cuisines in the regular restaurants. Having a cup of hot wine was a highlight!
Local Handicraft
Local Music
Local conversations especially in Bergneustadt, I met so many locals who told me some offbeat places to explore and taught me a bit of German as well
I liked a lot your photos, they are very professional. Which Christmas Market did you like more? What did you try there?
It would be great if you add more information to the photos.
Unfortunately, I’ve never been to Christmas Market in Germany but this year I will visit in December but I don’t know yet which one exactly.

Thanks for liking my photos @PoliMC and for your constructive feedback. To be honest I am more of a photographer than a writer but noting your points for my future posts. Thank you very much!

Yeah, maybe it would be great to visit such Christmas Market in a village, I would like it for sure! My idea was to visit this in Munich but let’s see.
Thanks a lot for the tips that you gave me, it’s really very helpful. I visited only one Christmas Market, this in my country - Bulgaria, but the atmosphere in Germany, I think it’s different than here.
Wish you a wonderful week and happy new year to you too!
@Saurabh_Narang Thanks for taking us for a pictorial tour of some of the sights in Germany.
I was wondering if you’ve heard of my #ChristmasInMyCity 2021 world wide challenge? Thought I’d mention it in case you’d like to participate. I did it in 2019 but didn’t in 2020 as there wasn’t much happening that year in Melbourne, but now I’m back!

@MariaNgo Hi Maria, thank you for inviting me to your challenge. Unfortunately, Germany is hit by the fourth and worst COVID wave so far. Most of the Christmas Markets are already cancelled! Best wishes Saurabh
@Saurabh_Narang oh I’m sorry to hear that. That was what Melbourne was like in 2020. I hope you keep well and your stories up still in this season especially.
Yes, exactly @MariaNgo , @Saurabh_Narang is right. We are in the way to closing down the Christmas Markets for this year… Hope we can join your challenge next year.
@TorM yes there is next year. Let’s hope well all be in a good position to maximise Christmas celebrations. But in the meantime, if you do celebrate Christmas at home with your family, perhaps you might consider sharing some of your family traditions as well or about its meaning for you. So many things we take for granted that we do locally can be fascinating for others across the seas…
